Ep3 brake caliper position

Recently I met up with an old mate of mine who I haven't seen since school...

Being a car buff he started talking about his car (Audi a3 1.8t) and then moved onto giving his verdict on the ep3 and my car... and the first thing he said was oh the brake calipers look like they are in the wrong position?

I've never even noticed/thought about this before and said there are other cars that have it in the same position as the ep3 (rear facing instead of front facing).... can anyone shed the light on why they are in this position (he asked me why they were like that and tbh I didn't/don't know!)?

Position is irrelivent to performance.

As above. It doesn't matter where you clamp the disc, it's still going to brake all the same.
