flaming/backfiring

Im running a toda manifold with a fujitsubo rm01a with the arc intake, toda mani decats it but i hardly ever even get it popping let alone backfiring or flaming and ive seen others getting flames.....anyone know why this is??

Sh*ts and giggles. I think I know what he's on about, pops on overrun more than backfires I think.

It might just be the design of the exhaust that is stopping the pops. My Spoon cat back used to pop on overrun.

Isn't it the case that it will not be flaming if the air/fuel ratio isn't set too rich? Flaming indicates unburned fuel in the exhaust, which is OK, just a bit of a waste IMO.

I used to be able to do this in my old Sierra and it makes me cringe now when I think about what I was doing...

Turn the engine off while the car was at 5,000rpm +, leave the clutch engaged and floor the throttle. This would fill the exhaust with unburned fuel, then turn the key and the newly introduced hot exhaust gasses would ignite the fuel in the exhaust.

^ that won't work in a CTR.

Only time I got my CTR to flame was randomly on some hard gearshifts.

My DC2 flames all the time however. The eCtune 2step/launch control on B18 is a lot more harsh compared to the Hondata one on the K20.

my evo was tuned with pops and bangs, and then had anti lag if i wanted.

peeps on the santa pop run a few years ago can vouch for the flames coming out the arse. HOWEVER, that was an Evo, and completely irrelevant for this thread :lol:

Yeah, mine threw a few big flames several times on the dyno when Romain was mapping it

AFAIK my decated, race headed, mapped EP3 didn't flame.

My S2000 pops and bangs on the overrun sometimes, but I've not driven it yet with one behind me to notice if it fires, although I doubt it will.
