flip key for ep3

Let me know how you get on.
I'm wanting to do it too, but don't want to **** it up

Well he accepted my offer of £13 he might even go lower for anyone else. As I do loads of running I'm sick of taking off my fob for my shorts pocket & locking the keys in the car.

So do the standard keys contain an immobiliser chip, seems to be conflicting information knocking about.

Honestly people its simple. All you are buying is a CASE. Its an empty plastic shell. All you do is get your key cut too your blade and then transfer the electrics to the new shell. No re coding or anything needed. Simple, 5 minute job. The circuit board and buttons click out the stock case, and click back into the new case. Easy.

So there's no immobiliser chip in the key itself? Forgetting about the alarm fob for the minute.

Talking of fobs, it's looks like programming a new fob to the car is a doddle too. No specialist equipment required.

Just had a look at this and isnt it the wrong key for the ep3 (big groove down the middle)?

After reading this, you're right, the key in the photo does look different than my ep3 key too.

So they have sold me this as you say it's got a groove down the middle.

Please ''stress'' to them you want a flat blade key or they will send you the grooved one.

p1$$ed off now.

I'm going to take a go at this but does the new key have a chip thing in it? And if it doesn't would the lock smith make a new one or use the one out the old key?

Hmmm, mine has the groove down the middle style key, is this a facelift/pre facelift thing?

just got a message back from them on ebay

they are sending me the flat blade.

happy days, will update thread when i get it sorted.

so the key arrived with the grooved key installed. the flat blade is seperate and needs to be swapped into the key.
there seems to be a pin holding the groved blank into place but i cant seem to get it out.

sent the mrs to town to get the blank cut to my spare key in the meantime.
timpsons wont do it because apparently it is the 'wrong metal and they have had issues with them snapping in people cars so they refuse to cut it'
taken it to the key cutters in the market who 'dont have the correct tools'

today is this...

That ebay seller is a complete t0$$er. He wanted me to pay to send the grooved one back. Or I can buy a flat blade. If anyone wants it they can have it for £7 inc P&P.

Right then.

Took my eBay flat blade flip key to an auto locksmith. He puts my existing key into a machine and tells me it has a chip in it which means he can't cut the blade in the flip key because it simply won't work.

A blade coded to the car would be £50.

So that's that.
No flip key and a useless bit of eBay tat
