Fool's GU4500 Patrol of DOOM.

Thought it might be entertaining throwing up a thread dedicated to my hideously inefficient family beater.

When we were looking at emigrating down here we were set on shipping our old car, 2005 Discovery 3 HSE, but when push came to shove it just wasn't worth spending £6000 to ship a £10-12k car.

So sold up and went shopping once we landed, ended up with a 1998/9 can't be sure/care which Nissan Patrol GU with a TB45 engine. All for the princely sum of $10k (£6k at the time)

It had at the time a 2inch suspension lift, 1inch body lift, Cooper ST tyres (285's) and a pair of Hella spotties.

Looked like so:

Shortly after purchase, a poor person robbed the spotties from outside the hospital my wife was working in. At 2am.

None the less, life continued.

Gave it a oil change, or rather actually put oil in the damn thing.. my bad..

First order of the day was to fit a roof rack/awning as we are now 6 there isn't a vast amount of internal storage for trips away. And a new aerial for the UHF radio.

First trip out onto the beach for a BBQ:

Then packed up for a trip down Margeret River:

Was a good trip:

Finally time to order some replacement tyres, 35 inch. Or rather 315/75/16:

That's all for now, I have purchased some more paint to sort the wheels/weights then it's off to Dwellingup and Captain Fawcett trail on Sunday for 100+km of mud and car smashing.

And more wondrous fuel economy:

Ready for the mud:

Then much of this happened, was almost over the bonnet, in a petrol without snorkel.. bit twitchy bumhole as it spluttered a bit afterwards.. but the careful placement of the air intake directly above the exhaust manifold ensure the searing heat dried the filter out instantly..

Awesome camping spot 2 hours drive into the bush, required a sketchy decent but worth it in the end:

Plus point to the mud, helped me identify where it's leaking oil..

Rockercover Gasket and oil filter appear to be leaking slightly, leading to a glorious smell of burnt oil as it dripped onto the manifold.. MOAR SPANNERS!

So I am supposed to be working on 4,000 words of assignment, due next week, however I may have just removed the bonnet on the wagon. All so I can access two b@stard rocker cover screws that were not tightened correctly.

Hopefully I will no longer be trying to burn the car to the ground.

And it's the crankshaft front oil seal(from what a mate who's a mechanic told me), need to remove radiator/belts/harmonic balancer then swap out the seal. 4+ hrs work he reckons. Doing it for a "carton of p1ss". Fvcking love Australia.

Everything can be bought/bartered with Beer.

Crankshaft seal was sorted a while back, massive torrential rain created huge puddles which allowed me to "clean" the car enough to see if any new oil leaked. It didn't. Great success.

Oh just the rear shock bushes are now shot to sh1t, , may look at increasing the lift to 4-5inch rather than just swapping out shocks...

Had another play out in the mud, 4 kids in the wagon and 10 cars around. Tore the hell out of the first hill climb, so by the time I get up to it I spend 5min watching a hilux fishtail and slide all over the place. Managed to drop it into 4wd Low and bulldoze my way up. Awesome fun.

Some pretty insane gradients too, I'd fall over trying to walk it.
