How much does your insurance charge you when you add mod's

I know its depending on company and when in your policy you add mod's to your insurance but what does it cost you average to add each item to to your policy?

My company didn't increase for proposed mods including front & rear ARBs, braided brake lines & strut brace.

Greenlight seem to be quite good for mods. I was quoting an Impreza WRX with and without the Prodrive performance pack, it was only an extra £80 a year for it. (about 15% power increase)

Thats fair enough, if its power, i can understand that.

Power mods are only one factor though. If an insurance company decides that cosmetic mods are going to affect the value of the car, the risk of it being nicked or the cost of replacement parts then they'll increase the premium. If you don't want to pay more don't modify your car.

This is the bit I like about modding bikes. My old SpeedTrip had Ohlins suspension, trick levers and rearsets, race pipe, remap, oodles of carbon etc etc. without any premium hike. They did inhale sharply at the idea of a supercharger, but even then it wouldn't have been much extra.

my insurer never charged me any extra to add any of my mods on! :D

but robbed me for £190 when i had to up my annual mileage as anything over 5000 is considered unlimited

It is entirely based on the actual modification done together with the cost of the change, eg. if you added alloys of less than £500 in value, you tend to see no increase in the premium.

It's always best to ring your insurers first so that you can get an idea.

I am with a specialist...i am not going to name them

Is that because you haven't declared the various mods you have on your car?

My mods made hardly any difference to my insurance. They're after power mods for more money really.

It varies wildly depending on who you insure with. Some insurers do not even allow alloy wheel changes, some charge £hundreds for an alloy wheel change, some charge an admin fee and a small load, some just an admin fee, some insurers (THE SENSIBLE ONES) will not charge for an alloy wheel change.

This is not the case, my car is fully declared. my build thread has stated that ive done all i need in terms of engine power/modification. I was going down the carbon wing and bonnet cosmetic route but not anymore due to stupidly high prices to add the two.

i am not naming the insurance company as i was once warned for harming a company's reputation on here.

It's a bit silly if they're going to sting you for cosmetic enhancements. The insurance companies are really clutching at straws atm.

Not all insurers do load for cosmetic changes, this is the difference between a specialist insurer and an insurer only used to dealing with standard cars. The main costmetic modifications my company would load for is a fully respray in a flip/stupid colour or a full bodykit and in some cases spoilers.
