i have just bought a new 04 civic but not sure about the service history ,what would you reccomend doing or checking first and what else should be done (the oil has just been done)

If the service history is sketchy the first thing I'd do is a full major service.

Plugs, filters, fluids - I'd also serioulsy consider doing the valve clearances.

yeah as typewriter says, usual stuff like airfilter, fluids and spark plugs & get the valve clearances done aswell. won't cost much.

it drives ok but im paranoid about the sh i git sick of waiting for 1 and jumped in a bit ,,do the calipers need servicing to?

if you're doing a full service it doesn't matter if the plugs are officially due for a change or not, relative to their value of like £8 a plug or whatever they cost these days. if the car has no history it might have been clocked so might as well do everything.

in that case if you have history for past services then save the £30, i thought you may have bought it with nowt. you've bought them now by the sound of things, so certainly won't hurt to change them.

I'd still do the plugs.. Standard.

It don't matter who you get it serviced from; the service history is sketchy - for self satisfaction, I'd go to someone I trust. It's not like you'll be boasting a full main dealer history come time of sale... so there's no point paying dealer prices for the cherished stamp.

Trustworthy mechanic that you know of, or a Type-R specialist.
