Kwik Fit - bunch of lying c s!

My wife uses KwikFuk for servicing her Yaris. Simply cos its convenient for her, being close to her school etc. She still used them despite my advice of using a proper garage (even closer to her school).
The previous £140 service by them brought up an additional cost of new shox and other bits, which she duly had changed, believing them. They screwed up the wheel alignment (£30), and it had to be re-done.
The latest £140 service brings up an additional £500+ of "essential" work. One of which, is a wheel cylinder - £30 for the part on eBay. They want £112 to supply and fit! They even have the cheek to say the wheels need to be aligned again! (£30). They said 2 front tyres needed replacing - unknown brand for £74 each.
I tell her to take the car down to a family-run tyre specialist that I use. They check the tyres...."4mm of tread left, tracking & alignment is fine"
So we take the "advisory" list down to an independent garage. Guess what, of the numerous problems they listed, only the wheel cylinder was on its way out. The garage will supply/fit for £50.
Now, I never use KwikFuk for anything other than fitting tyres, only when I'm desperate.
They are a bunch of opportunist liars who will take advantage of a pregnant woman who knows nothing about cars.
Tell everyone you know not to use them. Ever.
By the way the branch of KF is at Woodchurch, Prenton. Wirral. Shame on you

Reminds me of the time back when I was young and dumb. I was bent over and lubed by Halfrauds.
I had an mk4 Escort and it was running a little bit lumpy. So I took it to Halfrauds as it was a Sunday and a bit of an impulse thing.
They had it a couple of hours and said it needed a tune up. £95 +vat later I have my car back.
However I kept cutting out at the junctions on the way home and running worse than when I took it in. So I stopped off at my dads for him to have a look.
He grabs a screwdriver, goes straight for a screw on the carb, gives it a quarter turn and its running as it was before halfrauds fudged it up.
Basically they had "tuned" it when the engine was still cold. I would like to call them stupid, but then am I the bigger idiot for going there in the first place?

Oh and eventually the reason for the rough running was a fecked manifold gasket. How Halfrauds couldnt have found that I dont know!

Halfrauds, Mansfield, Nottinghamshite - do not want.

Just want to add that KwikFuk in my area barely refill your air con above half when it needs re-gassing. Completely agree, do not use them

I needed my toe quickly checked and amended, they came back saying that the track rod ends have seized! The CTR was only 2-3years old.

I took it to the local ATS garage where I get all my company car work done on [my mech was racing that day] and they did it within minutes saying that they were trying to loosen the wrong bolt because the track rod ends had not been touched and are situated at the top. He said they probably didnt want to do it because they are not that easy to get too!

When I had my Astra I had the aircon regassed at KwikFit, I spent 2 and a half hours waiting around (as they told me it would be half an hour which is why I stayed) then when they were finally done, the guy that did the work drove it out the front with my music blaring out louder than anyone would play in their own car let alone in someone elses!
The guy that runs it is a nice chap but they haven't got a clue.
Kwik Fit - Hemel Hempstead.

I work at family run independant garage and some of the horror stories i hear about kwik are terrible.

Id avoid them at all costs.

There are plenty of garages out there that are quite capable of looking after your car but kwikfit are not one of them they have trainee mechs working on your car.
And if you get them to change a tyre its almost a dead cert that they will fook your rim

i took my old peugeot 306 to a local garage for its mot went in came back out passed, drove off and heard banging from the wheels, turns out the wheel bearing was fcuked, wasn't like that when it went in, so that cost me another £90 :(

I've just picked up the wifes car from the ind. garage.

They asked if the car had been serviced by KF. I said yes, last week. The guy said that although they changed the obvious stuff like filter, oil, air filter & plugs. Other detail stuff had been missed. He said the whole brake drum assy should've been cleaned, checked and adjusted - not just cobbled back together. Said the the hinges and other moving parts weren't greased. He said little stuff like that show how much attention to detail a proper garage service would do. Basically KF did half a job and charged full price.

Just read this thread and another garage company to watch out for is F1 auto's. My partner went in for a exhaust to be relpaced on her old Vw polo, due to a blowning noise, no problem they said take a seat and it wont take long!!
As they finshed and the car was driven out of garage the blowing noise was still there if anything it was worse!!
The mechanic said oh no its fine just the new exhuast, i didnt belive a word he said, anyway to cut a very long and frustrating story short the dick head who done the work when removing the exhaust cracked the manifold and didnt say anything, so after some strong words from me, the manager admitted the mistake and said they could replace the broken manafold but would be £120, i lost my cool after that.
The work was eventullay done but the car was still never right, now the car is sold on and she is enjoying her Mini Cooper!! Formula One Auto center Porstmouth :smt018

Shocking, I would never use them, not even for changing tyres.

My brother was a manager of a Kwik Fit branch at the age of 18. He was trained in how to rip people off!!

He ended up getting the sack for theft, guess they trained him too well!! :p

Kwik Fit have high targets to work too, therefore they try to do stuff (notice i say try as they dont really know what they are doing) that is fine and does not need doing.

Took my own tyres down once to have them put on. Was informed by tech that i needed new brakes all round, asked manager to check, he said the same. Too which i informed him that he was a lieing little prick. They where replaced by myself 2 months before:eek:

Took there names and informed head office and trading standards, both where sacked and the company was investigated, big fine i believe.

Suggest you do the same and go to trading standards.

Don't blame you mate, I actually quite enjoyed that post  I would have been boiling inside.
I'm not even brave enough to see if my local is any good, after the air-con reports I wouldn't even waste my spare time

Have to say I have never been to Kwik Fit and don't think I ever will.

Had one of the apprentices in the factory where I work (who wasn't the brightest and no longer works for the company) take his car to KF to have them look at his brakes on his '03 Clio.

After showing him the one disc which had a hole in it  they said the brake system needed changing. £800 later they had changed:

  • Front pads
  • Front discs
  • Front calipers
  • Rear drums
  • Rear brake lines
Plus the cost for the "mechanics" to do the job in about 1.5hrs as it was closing.

We ripped everything out of him when he told us (specially when he was an Apprentice Technician and should have known better). Will never go unless its with someone I know who has family as a manager to have the work done.
