lowering and camber!

Messages

hi there
im thinking about lowering my ep3 and want to check im right here!

Im looking at a set of either tien springs or tien coilovers ( depends on the funds). if i buy these ill obviously need to adjust the camber at the front using a camber adjust bolt set (spc) seem the best option. will the rear need a camber adjustment set of or does it have that already.

I am able to fit springs and the camber adjust - always up for a challenge- but the set up bit im wanting done properly so can it be done anywhere or is a specialist required?

cheers Neil

back needs it own set, and hell yeah, coz it`ll look PISH otherwise (boot full of lead)

Where are you based fella, and out of interest why have you chosen Tein?

Im in kilmarnock near glasgow. Honestly dont really know the seem to get a good write up and there a good price! gut feeling haha

ok so what do i need for the back because unit 8 dont seem to have anything that fits the requirments

The Teins (tiens whatever) look the best IMO

Koni, PI etc with 35-40mm drop looks pish/chav

Check this baby out (Tein 20/25 drop)

Looks should have nothing to do with choosing suspension surely? The right set up for the car and roads you drive, and type of driving should be paramount I would have thought.

If it is just a case of course of wanting the ride hight dropped of course, then may as well go for just the springs, and any decent springs will do as a car dropped by 25mm on Eibach say, will look the same as a car dropped by 25mm on Tein :D

As far as rear camber arms go, call up ABP Motorsport or TGM I am sure they can sort you out fella.

fair one, but i`ve seen type r`s with the usual Apex 40mm spring jobs and they look shi te

Above pic looks far better

Not really into lowering for the looks but Funky's example looks much better:) and nickyboys doesnt look any better than standard

thats not my car.
The front looks well smart, evil

And the back looks, well, natural. Perfect height, and the wheels aren`t bending inwards and toe-ing out

ah well like G mentioned, yours is probably better at fast bends etc than the car I showed

I didnt say it was your car, just that it was your example of a good looking lowered car.

cool.

all down to personal preferance then I guess

I don`t do track days or the like, so i`d choose the first set-up.

TBH, the first setup is probably going to be more user friendly. I find I catch the mid pipe on speed bumps sometimes, its been so long since I've been in a standard ctr I cant remember what its like to give a better comparison. Performance wise I love having mine lowered its much better, but comfort wise there is a compromise.

lol... :). When I had my car lowered originaly on the well proven ABP set up, it was lowered around 30 or so at the front and 25 at the back. It had the camber adjusters on. It looked airly decent, and the handeling improved markedly. With a little more front end feel, and turn in. Rear felt a little more planted too.

Of course now I have gone onto a decent set of coilovers it is in a different league altogether. Though If I am being honest with myself, If I had gotten the coilovers back then I would not have been at a level to appreciate the difference, but I am a little better at feeling what the car is doing now, and can tell to an extent what difference the mods I now do have.

My only small grumble with Tein, and it may be unfair of me is that I so often see folks going for these, and other japanese systems based (seemingly to me at least, and I have been guilty of this, and still am :D), because they are Japanese, and assosciated with our scene, and seem the cool choice. Yet In my experience of driving a few cars with these set ups I have found them to be a little harsh and over damped and less complient, even the one set up for UK Fine on a track I am sure. Of course where I live the roads are quite bumpy and fairly twisty.

Of course you r gonna do what you are gonna do, I just think the above is worth baring in mind thats all :D.

Could be worse, you could have a set up like my bro on his focus, sitting about 60-65mm lower than standard on spax coilovers, He destroys me round bends in his 160bhp 2.0 zetec focus, he has fitted a RS LSD. Bad news is he has a brand new 2.0 litre zetec lump, its in our garage being rebuilt, just got head back, should be running about 225bhp with omex ecu. Then he is going for omex throttle bodies which should push it to anywhere between 240-250bhp.
But handling wise its the nuts , on track its brilliant and shows up bigger, better more expensive cars. Ride quality off track is really uncomfatable and when ever I borrow it, it feels like its trying to break my back :p

One of the advantages of the Tein's is that they can be serviced here in the UK as required.;)

Regarding camber adjusters, most front shocks have adjustable top-mouts for camber apart from the entry level ones.
