Mugen 200

Hi guys

Other than my drive home from Edinburgh upon purchase, the car has barely moved. However today I had to drive to North Wales for work on the twistys

The handling is unbelievable, so much more precise than the EP3. I panicked at one point as I saw the speed I was carrying through a corner was 20mph more than it felt it was doing. Didn't push it for obvious reasons, but it feels capable of so much more.

There was however a bit of a downer. Backstory time...

The first proper drive I took in my EP3 was doing a near identical trip up the A470 with work, when a stone from a van coming the other way badly damaged my windscreen. Couldn't believe my luck.

Surely lightning wouldn't strike twice? Nope, even worse. A trailer went past me today and I heard a horrible smash against the car - another stone and a large one by the sounds of it.

I pulled over and was greeted with this:

Gutted

As you can see the paint has been removed completely and I'm down to the metal. Does anyone have an idea of a respray cost for this damage. Hoping it won't be too much as it's a relatively small area.

Also, can anyone recommend a body shop in the Cardiff area?

Cheers

Bummer!

There is a good bodyshop that I've used that's in the Traders section but they are in Bolton so a bit of a trek for you.

Thats huge for a stone chip!

Only really good bodyshop I know is in Guildford so that's probably no good for you

Yeah, if was f'ing large whatever it was that hit!

First reply from body shop is £120. I can live with that figure, but need to be sure they're good. Unfortunately your recommendations are too far away guys.

I've used OSE in treherbert (Rhondda) many times and wouldn't take mine anywhere else! Still a bit far for you but getting closer :)

That's quite a bit closer! Do you have a web link/contact email for them? A Google search for OSE returned Old School Engineering - is this them?

Thanks for the info.

Yes, that's them mate. They specialise in classic/rally cars and have a couple of nice workshops. Last time I was there they were putting a classic ford transit body on a modern day chassis for a ford dealer demo vehicle. They also have a connect which used to have a k20 under the bonnet which you may have seen a few years ago at Japfest C.C.

The owners name is Byron, they've painted a few things for me including bumper and wheels.

Hope that helps.

Thanks mate, I've spoken to Byron and as I'm in the area next week I'm going to stick my head in for a quote.

I swear i saw this car in a video about the new CTR the other day

Unless Honda have been taking it without my permission I'm not aware of this! ;)

Video link?

As for the paint situation, I've used some CW touch up paint which makes it far less noticeable, although it still bothers me. Front wing respray in near future for sure.

Just trying to find it for you now bud, could of been from the previous owner, think it was a honda meet in norway or something where loads went over. give me a bit to try and find it and soon as i do ill post it for you

Ah cheers Sam. Yeah that's the M20 which was a hardcore version at £30K! The M200 took some nice styling bits off it but not much else, but was therefore more affordable.

Ah i had no idea it was a 20 haha, still mugens i'm not to clued up on, just looked very similar. noticed the price tag and thought it was steep :D

The M20s are very very different to the rest of the FN2s.
IIRC they have hand build Mugen engines, Mugen brakes, Mugen suspension, Mugen gauges, Mugen wheels and that is just the standard M20 equipment. There's also the options list that included a stripped out rear.

I love M200's,they look awesome.
Not keen on the Mugen rear wing though a bit OTT in my opinion.
I hope you get the damaged wing sorted soon.
