My Satin Silver Ep3 Type R

Messages

Hi,
New to the forum after picking up my new pride and joy on Friday. Coming from a Golf mk4 1.6 its fair to say its a bit of a step up! 90,000 miles, everything feels good, service history was pretty much all there, checked all the usual stuff using a buying guide on here before buying and gave it a good test drive, so far everything seems just fine! Happy with it is an understatement, was shaking a bit after the drive home late that night, very special car.

Well here is the golf that I wasted a lot of money on over the years, although learnt a lot and it got me about, honestly used to think it was a quick car haha...

And here is the Type R is the morning after I brought her home:D!

Picked up some cleaning products and gave her a once over to see what's what.

This thing really did not work with the pipe in the yard, attachment must be dodgy on the hose or something so I just rubbed it on with a cloth.

Got rid of the mugen sticker

And after a quick clean...

Number plate is showing its age but this wont be a problem for long ;)

Have ordered oil, filters, transmission oil, crush washers and some iridium plugs to give it a service for peace of mind.

Washed the filter, cleaned out the throttle body, tightened accelerator cable, lithium greased gear lever 'plastic ball?' and replaced the mani cover rubber washers.

Also lathered some left over exhaust gum on the cat heat shield as it was rattling slightly from corrosion, no money to replace it at the moment and if i was spending money on the exhaust in any way I doubt I would be able to resist going aftermarket.

Current Mods Are as follows:
Eibach springs, 35mm i think
Skunk2 heavy gear knob
Strut Brace
AEM v2 Filter, sounds amazing
HIDS were fitted at some point but one is yellow and one white so want that sorting

That's all I can think of so far. As far as plans go I am going to do this service, new front tyres (but unsure of brand), sort the numberplate situation, put a headunit in so I can have my music, see what I can do about a small bumper scrape on the front and a some paint damage on the rear, then slowly add any mods that would benefit the car as and when needed/wanted! :)

I am currently based near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire for a placement year as part of my uni course until July 2015. Home is Lincolnshire!

Look forward to hearing from you all, from what I've read so far there's some good advice and knowledge kicking about :p

Cheers!

Yeah as I say not 100% how much drop they have but looks about right to me and feels tight as a nut! You can say that again mate it's even more obvious in the dark :/, think I'll just get a pair of new bulbs from hids4u, cant risk having a mismatch like that for much longer ha!

Just had a look online the hid kits are illegal so going to take the kit off and put some proper halogen bulbs in, cheeper that way aswell. Also going to open them up and give them a proper clean as they seem to be tainted on the inside

In regards to the HID's it's unusual that people get done for having them fitted as most new cars come with them anyways. Yes they are supposed to have auto/self levelling systems BUT if you get the correct bulbs for your lights for E.G reflector lights should have a "R" kit so like H7R this stops glare to other users and also gives you the correct light pattern. you get all of the pillocks using the wrong bulbs which causes glare and does also annoy me, perfonal preference though and depends if you are willing to chance it.

Car looks great though not long had my satin silver EP3, any other plans?

Cheeper, safer and easier for me to just out halogens in, got better things to spend my money on at the moment and just increases the chance of getting pulled, not worth it for me cheers for the advice though. Thanks very much have to say Im very pleased with it, been on the wish list for years and feels like I've chosen a good one so far. Well with tax coming up and only paying for insurance, the car, and a load of service items money is very low at the moment ha. But in time I want a good nice sounding full exhaust system that isn't overly loud or drowny (like the look of the toda straight tip pipes), for now at least I like how quiet it is though at low revs. Short shifter and fast road setup sound like good buys. A good set of disks and pads. Sort the odd paintwork marks and take it to the specialist in Hampshire for a checkup! Enough to be getting on with for the meanwhile anyway ha!

Package came through from tegiwa! Gave her a service for peace if mind and quite glad I did!

These definitely wanted changing

Oil was looking a bit black as well for my liking.

This worked a treat for the gearbox oil!

Got some good quality normal halogen bulbs to go in soon once I've taken out the hids then next job it tyres and address the bodywork, dent front passenger fender and paint damage from a car park bump on the rear it looks like.
If anyone knows of any good value body shops around west Oxfordshire or any other ways to get them sorted without it costing a fortune give me a shout, any advice would be great!

Thanks man, just some bits to sort out. You won't regret it, drive a few and hold out for a good one and you'll be sorted

There is plenty of decent low mileage ones around but with patience you will find one at the right price. people seem to ask WAY to much for a low mileage one

Got these removed but the original bulb socket is missing, so off to pick a couple of them up at halfords tomorrow then I'll be able to for the bulbs!

Thanks mate, it is fairly clean apart from those two bodywork scuffs, should be able to get them sorted without paying a fortune as the damage isn't deep and the dent hasn't creased :). And as for the drive its fantastic, puts a smile on my face every time I get in it. Haven't been very far in it since picking it up as work has been quite flat out but off to Cambridge this weekend so that will give it a good run

Well bit of an update, trip to Cambridge and back went well, drove without fault, great fun to open up every now and again and didn't use as much fuel as I was expecting so all good.

Sold the hid kit and sub from my old car and set about getting some parts to sort out the headlights (connectors were a rip off) and fit my head-unit.

Dropped the connector and bulb down out of sight below the headlamp while I was fitting it, thought I was going to have to take the bumper off! Luckily I calmed down and had a look and I could get to it by just removing some of the wheel arch trim so saved a lot of time effort and swearing there ha.

This is the head-unit, works great, built in bluetooth and parrot is helpful. Think its suits the car well not decided fully on the display and key colour yet but I'm always fiddling with that anyway. Sides don't fit completely flush but it looks fine and sits firm so will be fine until I decide whether to get a facia adapter and get all the silver plastics sprayed or something. Will stay as it is for a while anyway!

Got bored and cleaned the seats..
Before..

After..

Also gave the two damage spots abit of tlc. Rubbed them down gently with paint restore then washed and sealed them with some polish. Looks a lot better for now but in the long run when funds allow I will get a body shop to do a proper job, if any of them ever decide to respond to emails ha.
