N77's 30th ANNIVERSARY EP3 TYPE R

What a fab thread! I almost feel as if I've been on the journey with you! Keep up the sterling work ..... :smt077

2 questions:
1. How easy is it to remove the front bumper?
2. Are oil pumps a known failure point on these engines?
It's pretty easy to remove the front bumper, couple of bolts inside each of the arches, couple of screws underneath then the rest are the plastic trim poppers, nah need to get spares n though in case they break.

Not sure on the oil pump, may be because he car is not used regular I am not sure to be honest.

I have decided I needed a bit of noise, so I have also ordered something else to be fitted.

All booked in next week to have suspension fitted and set up, and the noise adder fitted too :)

So, have had a busy week with the car, I thought I would make up for lost time when it was off road for so long this year lol

First change was the stereo equipment, I decided to lose the amp, front speakers and also change the head unit.

I decided to get the Pioneer DA-120 appradio as I mainly stream music now and my current head unit doesnt support AD2P so changed it.

Next were the speakers as the fronts are for use with an amp, so went for these from Pioneer

I just ignored the custom fit makes and went for the size of them, fitted straight in with the Astra speaker adaptors from Autoleads.

I then was keeping my fingers crossed with the tweeters, I got lucky with the previous ones, as they went into the tweeter pods perfectly.

So ordered some more from Hendy and to my surprise, they fit in percectly yet again.

Pop out the holder as so...

20161111_222538_zpslqxo1vlz.jpg

And the tweeter slots in perfectly, snug fit but have used thr supplied tape to secure

Then I have also had a little outing with these in my boot :)

After deciding where to go, I went to Grinspeed with my other car and Stevie is very professional but is also a good couple of hours from me, so looked a little closer to home.

A deal was struck and only being 45/50 mins away, I went to Area Motorsport to have them all fitted and set up...

FB_IMG_1478859894017_zpsswxsarhu.jpg

Had the MeisterR fitted with camber arms with new adjustable steering arms and superpro bushes in the arms, together with an oil and filter change following my rebuild.

Also temptation got the better of me and I wanted a little more noise, I was originally going to get the M2 midpipe and use the standard box, but decided to get the box as well, I can easily swap it over if I ever want too as well.

Have to say though its pretty quiet with the bung in at the moment, but plan on taking it out shortly.

No more pics as the car is filthy but more to come :)

Looking great mate. Good to see your enthusiasm is back after what happened with the pump.
i bet your so happy you did'nt sell it now eh!

I've had mine since new (2004) and the intention is to keep it for the foreseeable. We have just bought a Volvo V40 as the family car so mine only gets used by me on the commute and summer blasts.

................. Just a quick question, now you've lavished love and money on both cars. Which one would you keep if one had to go, Ep3 or Cooper S ?

The ep3 will never be leaving my side, don't get me wrong the mini is great and thing goes well now and you can chuck it about, but there is something with the Civic. I may be tempted to keep the 2 at this rate though lol

So due to having Evo wheels and slightly bigger tyre it was catching the rear arches, only slighly but still catching. I could of done a little more camber but decided to have the arches rolled rather than messing and once its done, its done.

So another visit to Area and they are all sorted

So after the last few days of rain and the country roads leading to Area, the car needed a clean up. It would of rude not to take some pics of it afterwards...

Totally love this car,

i have the M2 mid pipe now and looking at the rear box but not too sure about the fact it sticks out from the bumper, is it as bad as it looks on the pics??

regards
Baz

It does come out a little more than most, I had the HKS on the last one and that sat nice angled up.

Pic of it more to the side

Ahhh it was you on the FB group.
Yeah posted on the groups, excited to finally get them. Was going to order them just before Xmas but decided to wait until after as I knew they would be delayed with all the Xmas deliveries or left in a warehouse lol

Nice, where did you get them and how much? PM if you obviously don't want to post.

Nah I don't mind.

A chap sells them on the CTRO forum but has a website as well.

www.k-system.pro

Through the forum I paid £850 inc PayPal fee's and with DS2500 pads and HEL lines.

These have also arrived today, hopefully as easy as the MCM guys portray lol

So, I have been at Area Motorsport for the last couple of days.

First job was to fit the brakes and the second was to preserve the car underneath, as it's pretty clean underneath, so I wanted to keep it that way.

Brakes went OK initially or so we thought. Rob had a check over and found that the discs were not centering, they tried all ways to get them to with the fittings included in the kit but couldn't.

In the end Rob has machined some of the bracket on the hub assembly so they could be fitted correctly.

All fitted behind the wheel, excuse the glow from the heater...

Brackets are a work of art and a shame they are not seen.

Will try and get some better pics of the brakes once it's had a good clean, as it's filthy and the wheels are now covered in brake dust lol

Nice work. The brakes look great.

With the arches and underside of the car what did they use to seal it?

Be interested to hear more about the bonnet dampers.
Cost?
Easy to fit or a pain?
Would like them for mine but only if they're not a ball ache to fit.
