Police 'fun'

Hi all,

New to the forum, picked up a 55 reg EP3 on Saturday and I'm in love. Had a Hyundai Coupe F2 Evolution previously (I know, Korean build quality and all that) which I thought was pretty quick, but nothing compared to the CTR!

Took it for a drive on Sunday on the M4 and was promply pulled over by the police (was only doing 70/75 mph). They said it was because their camera had detected the car didn't have any insurance (I have, so must've not been updated on their system).

This got me thinking. With the amount of traffic on the road, do you find the police pick you out more with a CTR and should I expect more hard shoulder action, or have I just been very unlucky?

Cheers

Mark

Probably been unlucky.

I've been stopped once in 4 1/2 years and it's not exactly quiet/unnoticeable.

wrong place wrong time mark. the coppers were just doing their job and it was good of them to pull you over to check the insurance status as it could have been nicked or whatever.

In 4 years of driving my CTR I have only been pulled over once for speeding and they let me off. So no I don't think they target us more than other road users. But, not every policeman has the same opinion as each other and deal with every road user in there own way. :)

I'd say you were unlucky. If anything you probably pinged their ANPR system.

I've never been pulled in either of my CTRs.

Unlucky bud! I'm picking up my EP3 tomorrow, just bought insurance today. So it's good to know this happens, I would've shat myself thinking my insurance was invalid or something.

The car that got me pulled over most often was a MG B strangely enough. But then it was crazy loud...

I was pulled over on an A road doing 97mph. It's the only time I've been pulled over by the police.

To be fair, they were only doing thier job protecting road users from idiots like me at the time.

Thanks for all the quick replies guys! Completely agree with Rossy T, good to know they're out catching the people forcing our premiums up!

Now, if you'll excuse me I'm off for a spin in the sun!

I have had my CTR 6 years and have never been pulled so don't worry about it (unless you are testing out it's maximum speed of course)

It takes a few of days for your insurance company to let the MIB know that you've taken or amended out a policy, who then update the databases used by police ANPR cameras. Helpfully, the MIB are only open Monday - Friday, so any changes to insurance policies made over the weekend won't be actioned onto the database until Wednesday or Thursday.

*Edit*

MIB is the Motor Insurance Bureau, not Will Smith.

Was pulled twice on my DC5 but that's it. Both my fault for having illegal sized number plate on the front.

I've ha Type R's since 2004 (maybe 2005, not sure) and I've only been pulled over once, and that was a standard roadside check to look at tyres.

4 years owning a CTR and I've never been pulled, as loxy said they would have only pulled you as the ANPR system would have flagged no insurance held on the car (takes 2 to 3 days normally for it to get added to the system)

You can check the insurance database yourself at http://www.askmid.com if you've not been added after 2 weeks get onto your insurance company

Standard roadside check for tyres? Isnt that an excuse for "i'm pulling you over because you're in a Type R"? :D

Ive been pulled twice in the Civic, first time was all my own fault for driving like a bit of a nob after getting my Diff fitted.

Second time was on my way home from work at around 1am.
