Proud DC5 Owner!!! Youngest owner?

Most insurers thought I had a 1.8 DC2 when I was looking for quotes on the dc5..

They said to me 'Are you sure it's a 2.0?'

The DC5 is not on 99.9% of UK insurer's systems.

The thing is, people just insure (incorrectly) off the reg number and think they are insured, in reality they are not. An internet site is not going to ask you is it a DC2 or DC5, a specialist insurer most likely would.

Yeah, I figured this out after the second quote I tried to get.

In the end I went with Brentacre, I will try Sky next year if I still have the car then, as I'll turn 25.

I really can't understand why this is still such an issue, DC5's have been coming in to the UK for over ten years now, yet insurance companies do not recognise them. I am pretty sure there are lots of people driving DC5's happily assuming they are insured, when in actual fact they are insured for a 1.8 ITR.

Nice. I got my renewal through. So nice to have a reasonable figure through finally. My DC5 was £2,100 to insure. 28 going 29, garaged, 3K annual mileage, No points, 3-NCB, 1-non fault claim (theft)... Jokes.

LOL! Mine is £934, 24y/o, Parked off road on a private driveway. London prices are mad.

I agree with you but it cannot be used an an excuse for fraudulently insuring your car incorrectly.

Many import cars are registered incorrectly, eg type in a registration number for an MR2 turbo, you find it's registered as a Rav 4. It is down to YOU to make sure the car is insured correctty, ignorance will not get you far when you claim.

I know that it is down to the individual.

Nevertheless, when you get an incompetent insurance advisor on the other end of the phone, from so called specialist insurers, who also neglect to tell the customer about these things it certainly does not install any faith.

Neither does receiving an insurance certificate back with DC2 on it, then being told "we have it on file that it is a
DC5"

Out of interest what do the companies regard the FD2 civic type R as?

Couldn't agree more... seriously though guys, give him a break - you should be welcoming/helping out people on these forums not laying into them because you're jealous. If he hasn't insured the car properly that's up to him, he can pay the price when he crashes it.
