Servicing question

Just to add to the noob questions.

I take it the list is the same for the DC5, also mine is due the 45,000 miles service. Is that the blue list?

Thanks

That list i grabbed was just Honda as a whole so yeah it will cover your DC5.
I think you will get away with any of them tbh mate, the last two would be for the major service IMO. I'm going to get the expensive one, but that's only because I don't know what's been done before, plus mine hasn't had the major service yet

On my last service i got told the next one was a big one, im getting a quote from a local tuner garage so i wanted to know what they were going to service and compare it to the list ;)

Cheers

Oh dear haha see it's going to be big bucks for me because I'm paying for the stamp and there's no specialist Honda place close enough to me. Keep us posted on how much you get quoted

does anyone no a garage in essex that is good and charges less

 Absolute madness mate! The prices dealers charge is so they can make the most money out of you as a customer. The reality of this is that you get a lovely list of stuff that is going to be done on your car and guess what? I never gets done (but you feel better as you have a lovely £600 Honda stamp!).

When I worked on Ford they would "forget" and miss stuff of your service or work that needed to be carried out so that you would come back with another fault. This is how they get you by the "goolies". Best thing you can do mate is try the recommended dealers on here or get a local trusted garage like what I did. Honda major service - £300, my garage charged £150. And I can go through my car with a torch and magnifying glass and rest assured, everything that was supposed to be done, has been carried out. We've all seen the Watchdog shows where they mark parts of your car to see if it actually does get replaced and yes, this does go on and they don't do the work in a lot of garages. Another thing mentioned on here was a mechanic mentioned he was timed to do a specific job and if it wasn't completed, the service manager would say to leave it. So unless you have a trusted friend or Uncle Bob that can do your service at Honda garages, then you are much better off going elsewhere.

Drive round the M25 to TGM, even with the extra fuel it will be considerably cheaper for you.

thanks for repley mate, all the things you said was on the back of my mind, but now at the front, going to have to find if i got any uncle bobs

Well had the major service done and Honda kindly releived me of £305.00 for the privialge. In the end i didn;t think this was too bad when you consider i only ended up suppling the Oil and Plugs and the price also included £53 for the MOT.

Needless to say she passsed the MOT and (this could be psycological) seems to run better now, the service DID include checking the valve clearance. I did get an advisory though which is that the front disks & pads will need changing in the next 3-4000 miles. My dealers have quoted me £245 all in for doing the job, does this sound about right?

the service will make your pride run better but you still could have saved some pennys.

front discs and pads on ebay for £60 so you could probably get them cheaper somewhere else. i wouldn't pay £245 seeing as its a 30 min job to do yourself.

take wheel off, remove 2 bolts holding the caliper (12mm bi-hex head) and slip off you can now chuck old pads in your neighbours garden, squeese piston slowly back in with g-clamp remembering to take brake fluid resivoir lid off and stick some paper towel around incase of overflow. remove 2 bolts holding caliper support (14mm bi-hex head) and move out the way, remove 2 counter sunk retaining screws (philips screwdriver) holding disc, remove disc and throw in the hedge. install new disc and replace screws, bolt caliper support on, put new pads in caliper support adding shims that are supplyed and slap some copper slip on the back of them, slide caliper back over new pads and replace bolts, put wheel back on, repeat other side and replace resivoir cap. test brakes. so all together there are 6 bolts to remove and replace and 5 wheel nuts per side. is it really worth £245 - £60 = £185 labour.

i always do my pads and discs front and rear. just have to not mind getting your hands dirty.:D
