As hinted at in earlier posts in here I took my Trophy in for it's 36k mile service last week and I've had nothing but trouble over it since. I still haven't got it back yet as I write this... how long does it take to do a 36k service? I was told around 6 hours and certainly not 6 or 7 days...
I took the car in last Friday for the 36k service and was assured (on a previous phone call when I originally booked the car in with Renault Cardiff) that their specialist would sort it out. This gave me a little more confidence considering the problem I had only a few weeks earlier with Renault at Griffin Mill (where *their* specialist had no idea what a ClioSport Trophy was and tried to get money out of me for having a non-standard car... yet the car is completely stock!) He obviously had no idea that the Recaro's came as standard with the Trophy and thus tried to charge me circa £300 for what was actually work under warranty. Luckily Renault UK fully compensated me on that one. But I digress... back to Renault Cardiff...
During the phone call above I mentioned about getting the accessory belt and tensioner pulley belt changed, and was told that this was not necessary until 5 years or 72k miles. I disagreed and stated that on the 2.0l 16v engines (as in the ClioSport) it had to be done every 36k miles. Hence, I explicitly asked for this to be written down and to carried out. I also asked for the bodyshop to fit a carbon fibre splitter to the front to replace the damaged standard splitter. The bodyshop had no idea what the front-splitter was... Still, they said they would do it and it was booked into the bodyshop immediately after the service.
I drop off my car early Friday morning (taking the day off work to do so) and decide to spend the day in Cardiff whilst they carry out the service. I return to the dealer mid-afternoon and a service advisor greets me and explains the car is ready (although the bodyshop hasn't had time to fit the splitter so I'll need to re-book!) Great. As I go through the notes of work carried out I notice that the final bill is, actually, really cheap. Too cheap. Before leaving I speak to Lyn and, like myself, believes the work to the belts hasn't been carried out. So I walk back in and speak to the advisor and, sure enough, they haven't even touched the belts! The response I get is that, "it doesn't need touching until 5 years or 72k miles..." At that point I went out to the car and returned with the manul and, in black and white, showed the instruction that indicates the belts need changing at 36k. I was not best happy. And, considering they'd had the car all day, why had it taken so long and thus meant my splitter had not been fitted?! Obviously I kicked up a fuss.
There and then the advisor ordered the relevant part needed to carry out the belt changes and I had to take it in the following week (which was last Tuesday). It had also been re-booked in to have the splitter fitted. I dropped the car off early again, made sure their guys knew what they were doing (I prayed) and left the car with them. Off into Cardiff again and another day off work. About 6 hours later I get a call from the advisor stating, "can you leave the car with us overnight?" Obviously I queried why and was told that the part ordered the previous week had not actually been ordered! So it had taken them 6 hours to realise and to tell me?!?!? Yes, I was fuming. I needed a car to get to Nottingham Tuesday night too as I had an important family get together early the next day. I was offered a courtesy car but then told they had none in and it was possible they wouldn't get one in until the end of the working day (by which time I had to ideally be on my way to Nottingham). It got to around 5pm and my car had - at least - had the splitter fitted but I was to leave it overnight in the hope it would get done the next day. Finally I also got a Twingo courtesy car and left the Trophy with them.
The next day (Wednesday) I'm with my family for the gathering I mention above and I receive a call around lunchtime. I am told, "can you leave the car with us again for another night?" I'm still angry at this point so, as you can imagine, I'm well and truly pi$$ed of by now. Inevitably I ask what's wrong and I'm told they've snapped a tensioner belt and don't have any replacement in stock. Hence, they need to order it for the next day and I'm without my car yet again. I'm also told the mechanic hurt his finger (I think he broke it from what I hear) after it snapped (the belt, not his finger...)
It's now Thursday (lunchtime approaching) and I still have not got my car. I just hope it gets sorted before the Easter weekend otherwise I'm going to be without the car for the weekend and this is somewhat of an inconvenience (not mentioning all the time/expense I've wasted and what a waste of my holidays it has been to this point).
The courtesy car is the new Renault Twingo and here are a few pics. It drives like a marshmallow and boasts similar performance...
*sigh*
From now on all my Renault work will be carried out by indie specialists and will never grace the forecourt of a dealers again.
