Recently i had a Honda free healthcare check on my 2015 fk2 gt . This took around 15 to 20 mins and a report came back to me which reported that there was an oil leak from the gearbox area and suspect rear main oil seal but will require gearbox removing to investigate further. Cost to remove gearbox £615.60 .Cost for 4 wheel alignment after gearbox and subframe removal £85
a bit of a frightener at first. But as discussed on here previously a big cost just to investigate what might not even be a leak from the rear main seal. All this came about when I scraped the Strakes (air deflectors) located in front of the front wheels on a dip in the road that suddenly appeared like they do and
had a good look with me ultrafire super bright led torch and as I was shining past the air vents located at the front of the underbody panels it looked like there was some oil under the engine I couldn't see a drip but looked like it had run so I mentioned it to my Honda dealer to have a look when they did the health check. For all I know it could be oil that has got there from spillage on a previous service or top up. Interesting to note that the oil level on the dipstick hasn't moved from a tiny bit below max in the year I've had it. I have since had a 2nd and third opinion one of which is an engine builder specialist. They both told me not to worry and live with it as if it was serious the oil level would have come down and oil would have found its way out of the back of the underbody panels. So I'm monitoring the oil level on the dipstick frequently.
In addition to above on the report it said that the rear discs were heavily lipped and pitted and that the inner pads were 80 -90% worn. I thought how can you see the inner pads without taking the wheels off, which I'm sure they didn't in the time it took to do the health check. They quoted me under honda fixed service pricing £308.
I have since priced the parts up from Cox motor parts which came to £170.46 then all I need is a garage to fit them, and charge for the labour which must surely work out a lot less than £308.00. I've spoken to my local guy who tells me they and many garages will not fit customer supplied parts as they become liable if anything goes wrong and cannot guarantee that parts are genuine. It's only August when I had the car mot'd and yes was to!d I've got approx 4000 miles left on all pads and considering I don't drive on my brakes and approx do an annual mileage of 2000 miles I am well covered. The car passed the mot with no advisories and the brake efficiency was up to scratch. So I've decided to check the brakes in around 6 months time advised by the guy who did my mot and have a look when I wash the car. In any case the pads have an audible spring that's designed to squeal when the pads are critical.
Finally they noted there was no history of the Aircon being serviced. But was checked when I bought it last year and when switched on is freezing.I also switch it on throughout the year to keep the seals lubricated. For the service they quoted me £65.00. which I feel is totally unnecessary. I would welcome your thoughts and opinions .
