best advice mate, dont bother too much hassel for it all to be rubbed off eventualy. renew or aftermarket best advice
 
If yours is looking nailed, do the old drill and sandpaper trick. Fit a bolt in it, stick this in the drill, fire it up and polish away with different grades of paper. You can go for the machine polished Ali look, or go for a fully polished chrome looking knob.
