Stretched timing chain

Just been told by Honda dealership that my ep3's cam timing chain is stretched and needs replacing, honda want £1400 to do it!!!!! Anyone know a honda specialist in or closest to leicester that can do this, mechanic I normally use said that it needs specialist kit to do it. Any help would be much appreciated.
 
Dude, by the parts from Steels or Hendy on here and YouTube it and do a DIY job. It's supposed to be pretty simple to do and will save you about £1200 from that unholy quote. That's laughable.
 
Pm Grinspeed, Stevie is a top lad and did mine for about £350 I think? Supplied and fitted, OEM parts.

He's based in Leyland, but it's well worth the cost in petrol for the trip. Book a service too and you're laughing.

IIRC there was a garage on here advertising a supplied and fitted price nearer £400.

£1400 is a joke. Tell them to FOAD.

I'm not sure if you need any specialist kit to do it, but I would say that if you're not a competent mechanic then don't attempt it. Getting it wrong could crash your valve train.
 
Cheers guys, nearly fell off my chair when they told me the price. Yep I haven't got a clue when it comes to anything technical.
 
Cars un drivable unfortunately, so might have to pay to get it transported as well if it can't be done local :(
 
Stick it on a transporter and get it to Stevie at Grinspeed. You will save a fortune and have the peace of mind it's done properly.

Even getting it transported and done at Grinspeed, you'll still save a fortune. Who was the Honda garage by the way, be nice to know where to avoid?
 
Narborough in Leicestershire. The people behind the desk weren't to helpful neither, they didn't bother to phone me once diagnosed. Had to chase them. Would have thought with them trying to rob me of £1400 they would be straight on the phone.
 
Last time I was at Grinspeed they'd transported a customer's car down to Romain on a truck to be mapped, they may even be able to arrange collection for you.

Can't guarantee that though.
