WelshyWelsh's Cosmic Premier EP3

So when are the other new purchases arriving...? ;)

Haha, which do you mean, the Advans, Mugen Spoiler or Bride seats...?! :)

I've got the Project Mu and Spoon springs all good to go financially, but I'm holding off until I find the Spoon calipers mate. Just can't justify new at the minute. As soon as I source them (I know, gold dust and all that), I'm up and running - been quoted three weeks lead time from Injection Imports on pads and springs.

I'll give you my dodgy front calipers and a bag of M&Ms for yours ;)

Nice motor WelshyWelsh!

Love the cosmic grey but when i wanted one, i couldnt find a nice decent one for sale so settled for a Satin Silver one because it was mint.

Where in Cardiff you from bud?

Im from Roath

Hi all, a small update as I've had a little delivery from Japan...
icon_e_biggrin.gif

As I've said previously, I've never been happy with the standard brakes, so thought I'd make some upgrades to give me the option to sling it around a track with confidence when not commuting.

This arrived from Injection Imports today:

APP micro mesh brake lines

I figured if they're good enough for helping stop aeroplanes, they'll probably do a decent job on the EP3!

Project MU Hyper Carbon+ front pads

And perhaps the most important part of the delivery, the free JDM sweets!

I can't rate Matt at Injection Imports highly enough. Not only did he do me a great price on the above, everything was delivered to my door in just over three weeks - from Japan.

I also ordered Spoon Progressive Springs. Unfortunately they have now been discontinued! Matt refunded my money within hours of notifying me - again brilliant service.

Not content with missing out on the springs, I went on the hunt, with everyone being unable to locate a set. Eventually I went to the dark side and contacted Spoon Sports Europe. They also confirmed they were discontinued, but that Spoon Japan were doing a final batch and sending 20 to Europe. Amazingly they negotiated on the price, so I've reserved a set. Just the two month wait now...

So this leaves me with just the calipers to sort. I had considered refurbing my OEM ones, but as I've got the above, it's definitely Spoon caliper time! And then that's it. Definitely. No more expenditure. Ever.

Well except these which I picked up off a seller on CTRO.

...and TGM to fit everything, but that won't be until the springs arrive and they've given me a good price.

Nice mate , i just fitted new cat back zorst and refurbed cam cover to my cosmic

Cheers Davis, what cat back did you go with? My cam cover is in need of a refurb so once I get all parts ordered and fitted, it's next on the list (despite saying I wouldn't be spending anything further...!)

JDM sweets... :D

Haven't eaten them yet, but assuming they'll taste amazing, while being a little bit crazy!

Those APP lines look very, very good. Much better than my Do-Luck ones in fact. Damn.

Got to try and out-do you on something mate! They're ten times better looking in the flesh too, than in pics (not that anyone will see them). Pretty sure you'll enjoy a fair few beers with the money you saved though. Plus Advan RZs > APP so think you're doing ok :)

How's the motor?

Pfft, I must have the best of EVERYTHING!

Kidding...

Car isn't doing well, something is wrong and it could be one (or more) of a multitude of problems. Yet, due to a house purchase on the horizon (I think the final contracts are at home waiting to be signed), I'll be paying a monumental amount of money on the deposit and fees; then subsequent decorating and furnishing, so am unsure when I'll actually have the time/ money/ permission to get it fixed. :( I'll update my thread as and when though.

Congrats on the house. Yeah it's a scarily priced business, bought with the missus last year so that's why the FD2 became an EP3-not that I'm complaining! Just try not to beat my record of Ikea 10 times in a week

Will keep an eye on the thread, hoping its not too costly for ya.

So, a pair of these arrived today :D

Again, massive thanks to Matt at Injection Imports for sorting. Booked in to R-Motion on Friday to get these, Project Mu Pads and APP lines fitted. Should be quite good at stopping then I hope...!

Will post some more pictures once fitted for anyone who cares :)

Hi all. Today was the day I had my Spoon calipers fitted, to replace my seizing OEM ones

I went to R Motion in Usk, South Wales as I had been told good things about Mike there. He runs his own EG Civic race car and specialises in B and K series engine swaps, so really knows his stuff.

The first thing that greeted me was indeed the EG race car

In fact the car park was a sea of Hondas, some just at the beginning of being restored...

...and one in particular that was looking rather well

During my year of lusting after the callipers (I never thought I’d say that about calipers!) I read so much conflicting information about if they fit OEM wheels, how much better than OEM they are and so on, that I’ll give the facts which will hopefully be of use.

• You need spacers to fit behind OEM wheels, I’m using just 3mm and although they’re close, they’re never going to catch
• Part of the dust shield needs to be cut away. In fairness to Spoon this is shown in the instructions (even if they are pretty poor)
• Once the shield is cut, they align perfectly with the disc, with no adjustment required
• Are they better than OEM, well more in a bit.

So I had my pads, lines, callipers and spacers and was feeling pretty well organised, if a little apprehensive that all these imported parts would go together. Mike took one look at the discs and asked if I’d bought these too. Um, no.

In hindsight I should’ve checked these too, but as Honda less than six months ago said they were fine during a service and OEM discs are ace, I didn’t consider changing. So, I was stuck until Mike said he had some used grooved and drilled discs in good condition.

Ideally I’d steer clear of this more extreme style, but knowing I’d only end up driving home, ordering more stuff from Japan, I thought it best to go with it. We agreed I’d swap my knackered OEM callipers for them.

So work began and after some angle grinding, the calipers were on

Then the APP lines went on, with no problems. Mike commented they were some of the best he’d seen. That’s always reassuring.

Lastly, the Project Mu Hyper Carbons. Mike said nothing about these...

And so after bleeding the brakes

I was good to go.

All I can say is the difference is outstanding. I appreciate that just changing discs would’ve made a noticeable improvement, but this setup is amazing! As the car is a daily, I needed town driving to be easy and smooth and that’s exactly what I’ve got. The brakes are clearly improved, but in stop-start traffic on the M4 and back at home they were pretty much the same as before. Stamp on the middle pedal at higher speeds though and it stops like its hit a wall.
Seems an odd thing to say, but the brakes will definitely make my car faster now. Track day soon for sure. Anyway thanks for reading all this and for now here are some quick pictures I took on the iPhone.

Very nice. That was the look with the calipers I wanted on my Cosmic when I had it.

Looks spot on.

They look great and lusting over car parts isn't strange......on a car forum, just remember not to say something like that to your work colleagues....they may think you are odd.

Thanks guys, I really like the blue against the cosmic.

Yeah, perhaps lusting was an unusual choice of wording, but you know what I'm getting at :)
