WelshyWelsh's Alfa Giulietta JTDM Veloce

Picked up the Alfa yesterday.

2.0 JTDM Veloce with upgraded wheels, brakes and some interior bits, with 43k miles on it.

Can't fault the dealer (Research Alfa in Nuneaton) who at no extra cost: refurbed the alloys in the colour of my choosing, changed the cambelt and MOT'd and serviced it, even though neither was due for 9 months. 12 month main dealer warranty and 12 months breakdown cover also included.

Initial impressions are very good, it's quiet and comfortable on the motorway, economical but also a right laugh in "D" mode which brings on bouts of overboost.

Some pics from various stages of the journey home (it's already dirty):

I think it's very ugly at the front. Brakes look good though and wheels are alright. But if it's just a runner then it beats my £1400 Jazz whore ;)

Brakes work really well and do look good. I like the front more than the rear actually :D but none of it photographs particularly well.

Nothing wrong with a Jazz, although I suspect for my work commuting this may be slightly more refined.

Until you end up parked on the hardshoulder in a cloud of steam waiting for the AA

I did laugh when they said "we've also included complimentary breakdown cover". The dealer didn't share my humour.

Urgh I've already bought a replacement gear knob at some stupidly inflated Italian price as the original is too plastic and cheap for my taste.

Figured I would start a thread for this, if only for the inevitable micky taking. Cheers Loxy for transferring over the first few posts.

So, really glad I ordered a replacement gear knob as it pretty much fell apart in my hands. Turns out nearly every Giulietta has been back to Alfa dealers to be fixed as the two halves are held together by the cheapest plastic clips known to man. The Alfa solution? Blu tack!

Knob pic:

Also I was devastated to see I'd kerbed a freshly refurbished wheel, until I realised that I park a stupid amount away from kerbs. The 'refurb' the dealer did was spraying paint onto the original wheel with zero primer or preparation, so you can just rub the paint off with your finger! Needless to say I'm not happy and am speaking to them about paying for a local specialist to refurb. They've agreed but they want a back street garage, I want a place with a good reputation (and the extra cost) so will see how that pans out. Can't blame this bit on the car!

So flakey:

Gotta say though, I'm enjoying Alfa life and it seems to turn a lot of heads which is confusing. "YOU DIDN'T DO THIS TO MY MUGEN!!!!" B@st@rds

My brother has a white Giulietta but his is the 1.4 petrol with 170hp. He's had it a couple of years now and it hasn't fallen apart yet. Lol

The reason should be that you're too busy going fast/ having fun to notice people gawping at the M200. Whereas you're poncing around in the Alfa, more leisure time to notice.

Also, sucky job on the wheels. I'd definitely be pushing for the job you expected them to do in the first place.

I do ponce around a fair bit now it must be said!

After far too many calls and emails with the dealer, with them arguing a refurbed wheel is just the face and me arguing that's like painting around pictures on the wall, rather than taking them off, they've agreed to pay nearly all the cost for a full-on chemical dipped, powercoated job and I'm happy to pay the £80 difference myself.

Booked in for Tuesday and then the Alfa will be looking sharp (ish).

Even if it was just the face, the face would require the correct prepping procedure / sanding - primer - de-nibbing - painting.
Rather than just a quick flash over with some paint..
At least its getting done right now!

The Alfa is looking sweet anyway

Wheels are in for a full powder coating.

Really enjoying the turbo shove too. It's the first turbo car I've owned so taking a while to get used to it. No doubt it's got more pickup than the M200 which is just stupid really.

Once the lag has been overcome at least, if at all.

Good-ish news regarding the wheels; sucks you have to contribute but at least it's a small amount and you'll get what you had hoped for to begin with.

Wheels looking much better!

Hadn't noticed the Brembo branding on the calipers previously either, so that's a nice little bonus.

What wasn't was the call from the garage saying two of the wheels were buckled and more oval than round! Hadn't noticed, so must've been on the back as I have no reason to doubt them. So paid extra for those to be made round again and play it safe.

So the Alfa is now about as glorious as its ever going to be.

Heard a rattle from under the engine earlier as I was approaching home. Had a look and this was hanging out from under engine cover:

A heat shield of some sort. Got a 200 mile drive tomorrow so either:

a) nothing will happen
b) the plastic engine cover will melt
c) the plastic engine cover will melt, catch on fire and take the car with it
