£4000 to spend on a CTR? And would 6 previous owners on a 53 reg car put you off?

Afternoon,

I am currently on the look out for an EP3 Type R either in Milano Red or Nighthawk Black...preferably the Red to be honest; BUT I only have around £4000 to spend. Could maybe go an extra couple of hundred pound higher if the perfect car comes up! It is an absolute minefield, there are sooo many for sale around this price and a little dearer. I have fairly strict criteria (for such a low budget

), needs to be under 75,000 miles, needs to have a Full Service History with as much of that as possible from Honda, needs to have 4 good condition, good make tyres, needs to be as mint as possible and with the least amount of owners, needs to have a long amount of MOT and needs to have tax. A couple of tasteful mods (induction kit/lowered) would be nice; but I am not bothered. It also needs to be within approx 100 miles of Cumbria.

I think Ive pretty much narrowed it down to a couple ive found for sale, with one being my favourite at the moment. It is a 53 plate in Red, Full History at Honda with only the last one being at a specialist which I think was fairly recent althogh have to check this. 10 months MOT, fresh 6 months tax, looks to be in totally immaculate condition from the pics, newly refurbished wheels, 4 good tyres (he thinks they're bridgestones all round with about 4-5mm of tread, although is getting back to me on that), 69,000 miles, recently had front disks and pads, he reckons it drives/handles perfectly with no oil useage, etc. Totally stock apart from light tinted windows at the rear and a upgraded CD player and door speakers...BUT it has 6 former owners according to the HPi check (im assuming that means he is the 7th). Would this put you off it? Like I say it does seem a very good buy for the price and ticks all the right boxes apart from that, maybe? Although obviously I do need to have a good look and drive of it yet.

Also; does anyone reading this know of any good ones or have one for sale that seems to tick all the boxes and want to give me a heads up..?

So the owner doesn't know what tyres are on it? lol.

I would hate to be after a CTR at your budget, knowing what crap and what idiots are out there. To be honest your asking a lot for 4k.

I don't see any reason why not, when I was looking, I went to see some with FSH and 2 owners and they were rougher than mine with no franchise history and quite a few owners. Go look at it and see what you think.

For £4k, you're asking alot. In my opinion, if a car meets all of your criteria at that price something is fishy and I'd avoid. And in regards to 6 owners in 8 years, that wouldn't sit well with me either.

Sit on your cash, save some more, and buy a better example.

Im aware im asking a lot for my budget; but in my opinion it can be done...if you have a good look over pistonheads/autotrader there a surprising amount of cars which 'seem' to fit my criteria.

Also, I asked this same question on civictype-r.co.uk and got a COMPLETELY different responce haha!

I sold a standard CTR 51 plate with 90k on for 3800 not long ago.
I agree with nymph, I'd be fishy finding a good'un at that price.

But that's an opinion, doesn't mean there are not genuine people out there needing the cash and a quick sale.
But just shop around alot, yourll find a good'n in the end.

you'll need to go out of barrow for your price, barrow tends to inflate car prices because of the area and how remote we are. I trevelling to north yorkshire for mine but it was a well worth the trip.

Personally the number of previous owners wouldn't bother me, as long as the it ticks the important boxes then i'd buy

I bought my Clio 182 and that was 5 yrs old with 5 owners but 3 of them had been regular posters on cliosport and one was a dealer. All history mwas up and together so i brought it.

4k will be hard but bargins are there, look hard and be cautions though. I looked at one that was supposidly mint! 5k and had obviously had some awful paint work!

I've been looking for a CTR for this money, and ive gone to see a few also, and i can tell you you will be hard pressed to have all those boxes ticked, and even if you do i'd be suspicious. And as said before no matter how good looks or how the car is presented when you drive it, if it to cheap to be true there may be something going on..

Im still searching, but increased my budget to 4.5-4.8k

Good luck with the search though.

They probably do look good on the internet, then when you go and view it, you see why it's priced at 4k.

If you want a Mint car, buy a new car. Simples.

I would rather spend 4k on a car with a good engine and tatty bodywork than vice versa.

A test drive reveals all. :), clutch replacement is a good reason to sell a car cheaply.

I too am looking for an ep3 now. I started with 4000 but have decided on around 5000 now.

The prices are so variable, i don't know what's good value and what i'd be paying over the odds for.

5k what should that get? Oh and i'm sorry for thread hijacking but didn't seem sensible to start another identical thread!!

I bought mine for 4200. Was suposed to be 4500 and got it down a little, bought it 4months ago but think the steering rack/slider is away! all the usual symptoms! So I would take my time and save a bit more now if I had the cash. (apart form that I love it)
