Air conditioner condenser rad

I believe someone has bought one of these before with no problems.

Once it is fitted it is worth fitting some meshing around the grill, £15 from Halfords!

Mine has a mesh already in the gap, is this not standard then?

Air con Rad

Hi There

I have just been to Honda for a Health check on my Type R 02 and they say I need a new Condensing Rad as mine has collapsed, they want £510.00 to replace, are these easy to replace yourself I should I have it done by them ! Please help.
Thanks
Bev

Hi Bev

Doc_loco said he was going to do a write up when he does his if you can wait for that. Alternatively you can provide the part to Honda as i did this week and they will fit and regas for around £182 (plus 70 for the part) and you're looking at half the cost.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bev,
I wouldn't imagine it to be a big job.. Tops I'd say 1-2 hours yourself. Take off bumper (held by plastic screws on the top, found under the bonnet, and screws on the bottom). Then from there its just removing hoses and screws that hold the condenser in place. Once done put the bumper back. After this you could even choose to refill the gas yourself (£30 quid refill from halfords if you return the canister) or get it refilled by an a/c specialist who will evacuate the a/c system. I am going to do mine next month.

I just ordered a new condenser from the site mentioned in this post.

After a year or no air con I've finally got my ass into gear! Just got to fit it and regas.

I would always get a garage with a proper machine to fill up my A/C, this can flush the system, regas it and check for any more leaks with the dye. As I doubt you would be able to tell where it's coming from if there is a leak.

Do it yourself or take it somewhere cheaper. A specialist will charge less than that.

I just found this online for all those that are interested in doing this yourselves.

http://type-r-owners.co.uk/forums/s...g-fogs-and-bumper-removal-on-facelift-version

It has a step by step guide on removing the front bumper.

Also, there is a video here and the guy does it in 5 minutes and he's not exactly racing to take it off.

10 - 12 clips under the car (depending if its pre face or facelift), 2 philips screws under bumper on each side, , 6 clips on top and 2 screws one on each side in the wheel well.

I just bought my condenser so i'll probably try this on the weekend provided the weather is good.

Hi all, Ive replaced my condenser. It took a max of 45 minutes to do the whole job and its very easy indeed.
Once the bumper is off there are two 10mm bolts holding the condenser to the frame on the top corner of each side of the condenser. Undo these. Once you do this the whole radiator is loose as it just sits on the bottom holders. To undo the pipes look on the right hand side facing the car. There are two 10mm bolts. One for the High Pressure Pipe on the top and and the low pressure port on the bottom. To undo the High pressure port you need to take the battery off to get access as it is bolted from the rear. To get to the bottom one u need to get to the bolt from under the car. I will post more photos but here is how my condenser looked!

Fitted mine last night with help from a mate.

It took about 1:45 in all and that was being carefull. If I can do it then anyone can!

It's in at the moment getting an Air Con service and leak test so fingers crossed!

I'm gonna have to open mine up again as its leaking from the low pressure pipe. Looks like the o ring may need replacing. Did u do this on urs? Also did u find it strange that the low pressure port was a little short. I expected it to go in a lot more of the port to go into the condenser hole!

Nuts sorry to hear that.

I did check the O ring and it did look OK not brittle but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for.

I didn't really check that but I made sure I tightened it good!

You've got me worried now as I don't think I could do that all again!

Lol. Just wondering if my low pressure pipe had broke. How long was the piece that went into the condenser hole? Mine was about say 3mm maybe at a stretch 5mm.

Well I've just spoken to the Garage and they said the service is done and I have no leaks!

I couldn't say exactly but I would say it was longer than 5mm more like 10mm?

As I said I can't be 100% sure but I fairly certain both pipes were around 10mm each.

I'm sure someone will be able to say for sure.

Just popped down the local Honda dealer to get some plastic clips that I broke trying to get the bumper off.

£4 for two!!!!

Be extra careful when trying to get them off.

I've just found out that the air con in my EP3 has packed up. Just blows hot air... never had it serviced but have had a mesh on the grill from day one. Could it just be low on gas or something more serious? Also how can I tell its low on gas and can I top it up myself?
