Are all open cone filters bad????

Ive currently got a Aem cai and just fancied a change. Would like a gruppe m but they are quite expensive :(

The AEM will give you the same gain in power as a Gruppe M, the only difference is the appearance. If you have the proper CAI kit it should sit in the bumper to gain the cold air, if it is the one that sits in the engine bay above the gearbox, you have the V2 and that's a while different kettle of fish.

It's a proper CAI then bud. As I say, this will give you roughly the same performance gains as the Gruppe M.

The Gruppe M, the Tegiwank M and the ARC are all the "best" intakes you could get.

As Darren said, the AEM CAI is up there with getting the coolest air through the intake.

Open cones in the engine bay are pretty crap for performance.

Yes unless 'long ram' or CAI.

Where the filter is in the engine bad = Loss of power due to higher intake temps.
