Baffled Sump

Are sppon they only company that make these, anybody had any experience of having a sump and can recommend a particular brand?

Cheers Paul

TGM Sport do their own version and I have a Mugen one from System R

Neither car has blow up due to oil problems yet

The version from Maidstone Sports Cars comes very highly recommended by the Elise K20 boys as Hasnic says

I'll be paying them a visit soon.

I was racing around Bruntingthorpe with the rev needle at about 8800rpm when there was a horrible clancking noise. Called the AA out who said it was the big ends that had gone! :(

Were you using slicks or cut slicks?
Was your oil topped up?

Many of my mates who've done over 50 trackdays with stock oil sump and had never suffered any problems.
However they never 'raced' their cars on a trackday.

I had checked the oil both on the night before and on the day and it was fine.

Was running with semi slick tyres. Is that significant?

Yes, of course it is. Semi slicks cause higher grip levels, therefore the oil will be forced more to the edged of the sump so not being near the oil pick up point therefore causing oil starvation and engine damage.

Forgive me for being thick but can this damage also be caused by going forward, eg strong acceleration from a standstill then braking (eg drag racing) I would imagine this pushes the oil forward is there a chance of damage ?

I think because of the pick up points on the engine sideways movement causes more of a problem.
