Hi TRO. Need some advice on some decent insurance companies really.

I'm currently with Elephant but don't really like them and am after changing companies, Admiral seem to be coming up trumps alot atm, but I'm also after one that will eventually cover some mods when I fit them, so that rules out Tesco, Churchill, Direct Line.
I have attached a quick screen grab from go compare earlier and I'm disgusted at some of the prices tbh lol. I will say Quinn seem to hate the area I live in and quote high.

Thanks

Cheers Lottie, I will give them a look. IIRC they can't quote online and get someone to ring you don't they?

Yeah but lottie has a dc manifold, which means de cat. So I was just wondering what they say about that.

A-Plan covered me this year. I was was Sky last year. Both very good companies.

Give them a call and list all the mods' you have. Exhaust systems are a separate item from the manifolds iirc.

Im also with a-plan, great service, very helpful with quotes etc.

I also tried chris knott, adrian flux, sky, swindon to name a few.

I know I could probably get a better deal with ringing them up or talking on the phone but I have allways wondered why companies can't do online quotes, even if it's a ball park figure. Admittedly it does put me off at first.

Adrian Flux want £750 excess with voluntary added onto it, never spoke to them again

Insurance is an accurate assessment according to postcode, driver details and the car. A ball park figure would be great but ringing around and saying the same thing is essential.

The fun starts when you can cut £60 straight off a quote within ten minutes of giving a comparable quote to one company.

I'm sure I've heard of one owner getting a MOT pass through careful fuel mapping on the KPro and de-cat'. The K20 burns quite clean as far as I know.

Quite possible, run a map for the MOT which gets you through and then swap back to the proper map afterwards, or find a friendly MOT station or swap back to the OEM setup for MOT time.

Cheers for some recommendations people :smt023

Yeah, I noticed that when I told Elephant I got a cheaper quote, they were asking when I done the quote, what the reference is etc. ALthough I done a quote online and it was cheaper than the renewal, I said to them why are you quoting me this and saying that. I was quite surprised at how reluctant they were to match their own quote lol.

Thats good to know, as I was told de-catting is illegal on the road in new motors.

Any car after 1993 has to have a cat was what I was lead to believe. But if it passes emissions then they can't have a problem surely?

You are going about this the wrong way.

The (online) companies you are trying are geared for standard UK cars, not for anything modified. Whilst some can provide quotes for modified vehicles, you are much, much better of speaking to an insurance specialist. You will need to pick up the phone.

It is difficult for a specialist to provide quotes on line as there are more variables involved when quoting on a modified vehicle.

Well Elephant have the mods listed like you said, and it puts my policy up by £60 per mod IIRC....BUT do not cover them if the car is nicked etc. I only plan for the basics on my civic like exhaust, filter etc.

Bugger, looks like I got to spend half hour speaking to people lol
