If you speak the the right insurers it will not make a blind bit of difference, speak to the wrong insurers and you may end up paying way over the odds.

My company specialise in providing insurance for modified and import cars, we also offer a discount to type-r-owners.co.uk forum members.

Thanks

Just had my renewel quote from Adrian Flux, its about £600 or £67 a month if i pay monthly for ten months. Thats with eight or nine years no claims, protected no claims, no points on my licence and ill be 32 when its due to start. Going to shop around for cheaper prices and to see if its much different if i put my girlfriend on the same policy as another driver.

I went with Flux on my FN2 with all mods declaired, 3 points mentioned but under threashold for affecting price, 2 years NCB plus business mileage, £900. This was the first quote I rang round for, it was the cheapest, by this I mean A-plan, Sky and Chris Knott said they weren't competitive and didn't give me a price...

im in the same boat, got clean licence 5years no claims my ep3 is modded im 30,rang sky wouldnt touch me they said its the post code
waiting to here off chris knox ,rang flux £981.81p still high i think need to do more shopping about
last year only paid £760 with kickfit without the mods the joys..

EP3 CTR - no mods
£370 Fully comp Full NCB protected
38 yr old

Fellas, put your missus on the quote, a lot of companies will actually bring the price down. My mrs is on mine, only because it brings the premium down by £70.

Just spoke to somebody at Adrian Flux, they say that with my girlfriend on the policy it wont make any difference in price as shes younger than me. So just waiting for somebod at Chris Knott to get back to me, still going to carry on shopping around in the meantime.

Ended up getting my insurance with Chris Knott this time.

Even though they couldnt put my girlfriend on the policy (Due to age), they matched Adrian Flux's quote, and both companies kept knocking the price down to beat the other. Anyhow, ended up with Chriss Knott, due to there monthly payments being a lot less than Adrian Flux. About £560 a year altogether.

I'm 20... but insured my EK9 at 19... Fully comp.. £2250, on a ten month bonus accelerator with Admiral... monthly, works out at just over 3k! Crazy stuff to some i know.. but i love cars to much... so i have to pay the price and get raped unfortunately :(

Don't know for UK, but here many kids drive under their parents insurance, there are guys out here driving audi S3's, focus RS @ 18y old, paying no more than 350£ because daddy's signature is under it. This malficious behaviour makes it unaffordable for the good/naive taxpayers like me who have to pay 800£ a year for a type R.

That happens here too, we call it fronting and it's illegal in the UK.

When I first started driving I was a named driver in my dads insurance, otherwise I would have been paying double to if I had my own policy which was £1700 for a fiesta 950cc. For a 17 year old earning £150 a week it were a lot to scrabble together. It is illegal but you can see why young drivers and parents do this.

Yeah I did it on my mum's Sierra. That was about £1,600 with me on it, £300 without!

Here it's legal, as long as the kid drving it lives under the same adress as the parents. The day they move, they have to report to the insurance, but sure nobody does that, that day, it's illegal. And stupid enough, not hard to find out for the insurance companies, yet they seem not to care too much....

 What kind of statement is that? Who doesn't do as much as possible to avoid the possibility of an accident?

You should have your licence taken off you if you're caught driving around like this. If you hit someone and they have to claim off you and your insurance is void because you didn't declare the mods, where does that leave them?

If you can't afford to insure the car you've got then either drive something else or don't f*cking modify it in the first place.

I'm sorry but i agree with this comment I have only recently been fortunate enough to get my type r after 9 years of driving as insurance is a killer, so I did what many do buy a car I can afford to run, insure and build up my no claims. I now have 8 years no claims and a EP3 type r with modifications declared It just annoys me people still do this and its the legitamate people like myself who end up out of pocket if anything was to happen.

oh and more to the point of this thread my insurance is £665 FC social, domestic, pleasure and commuting 8 years no claims and my partner as a named driver, TF post code
