I had the OEM kit fitted by area Motorsport for £400 the standard clutch is fine, unless your pushing over 260 bhp so I've been told

Hello All,

Just an update, had my replacement speakers installed a few days ago. There JVC 3 way coaxial type and there from JVC's DRVN series range. All four were replaced (front and back). What a difference it makes compared to stock speakers! Not really big on massive sub's and amp's etc mind you. Fitting wise rear's went straight in without adapters, fronts needed ring adapters (Vauxhall type, cheap from eBay) and once there fitted in place speaker gets screwed in place, it all depends on chosen speakers mounting depth these speakers had 45.5mm so plenty of room for the window to come down and door card to fit properly again. I did not fit these in myself I got a trusted In Car Entertainment technician to fit them in he also sorted out my after market Sony head-unit as this was not saving my settings when car was off (wires need swapping around).

Bad news now! Went into a trusted transmission specialist and got them to listen to the noise I get when in neutral, but goes away when I press clutch in. Car has been diagnosed with the dreaded input shaft bearing noise. Its driving fine at the moment but this in time will get noisier and fail completely. I'm in two minds at the moment either get this gearbox off and replace bearings etc or the cheaper alternative is to buy a complete second hand gearbox but taking this route could mean it could mess up in the future again (or maybe not!) I'm tempted to go with the 2nd hand gearbox along with a brand new genuine Honda clutch kit. My clutch is slipping too so while this is getting done the gearbox can get fitted too. If I do find a good 2nd hand gearbox hopefully get it all done for next week, and keep you guys posted.

When i had my clutch changed i had the input shaft bearing changed at the same time, Now a few months after i had it done it started doing the noise again and just does it now anyway, the best thing to do is when you take it for a clutch is ask them to check the bearing to see if there is loads of play in it or not.

Cost me 500 for clutch and input shaft bearing supplied and fitted

Hi Guy

Thanks for the info. I think "jimbothemagnificent" is right, might just replace all the bearings in my gearbox while its out and having the clutch change. Brought an OEM Clutch kit from Cox Honda Parts which arrived today along with Honda MT fluid awesome service as usual. I had some of the lads listen to the input shaft bearing noise at work, they couldn't hear it that much, but I know its there and want my Civic sounding how Mr Honda intended it to be. Anyway I'll have a look at this months funds and give the transmission lads a call to book me in on Friday. Still loving the Type R experience defiantly next will be tires and a few car park tiny ding's getting corrected.

I would recommend going to eightspeed if your in Wolverhampton or Grinspeed if you fancy a drive

I had my clutch changed couple of weeks ago for oem honda. At same time had input shaft bearing changed and one of the main big bearings in the gearbox at the same time. It doesn't make noise when down shifting any more but when your stationary in neutral with engine running it still has slight noise from transmission but push clutch in it goes. so not sure if you can ever get this noise to go away. Peformance wise though amazing difference you will love it.
cheers.

Hi All,

Just an update, got my car back today went with the route of sourcing a low mileage gearbox along with a brand new OEM Honda Clutch kit. Just went for a drive and no noise from gearbox bearings or any whining etc even in neutral the car is quite even when press the clutch in or out. Clutch wise the first thing is i've noticed is how light it now is! car is flying now so at this moment in time I'm very happy, yes I know getting a second hand gearbox can mess up any time but I'll be doing my best to take care of it etc. Right, next will be all 4 tyres getting replaced.

sounds like you're spending a pretty penny on your motor!! Tyres are super important though, so don't skimp...

Hello,

Yeah jimmylin it does sound like I'm spending a bit much on the Civic. It's because I want it mint as possible etc plus the car will kept for at least 2 years hopefully hassle free now.

defo mate, enjoy it for a bit....before going down the mods path, if indeed you're going to go there!

Hello All,

Just an update brought 4 new tyres, Maxxis V01. First impression's are good especially in the wet but I'll get some more mileage done on them then comment on them. Apart from a slight sqeek from one of the belts on damp days all is going well. Right need a bit of advice on this Induction system I've been hearing about, and basically want your honest opinions on it, it's called Tegiwa Carbon kit. Is it worth it? it looks cool under the hood but other induction kits are a bit cheaper K&N Typhoon or AEM etc I know the noise is better but a mate of mine at work (who owns a nice Civic VTi 3dr) raves about it that its a must buy for an EP3.

personally I would just go with a K&n Typhoon if you're on a budget, sounds great....may get a bit of heatsoak in the summer, but nothing major...should cost about 70-80 pounds.

I got a gruppe m, and love it but it's quite expensive at around £350.

don't like the teg m, personally I don't think it gives out quite the same note as the gruppe m....

Hi all, good to hear about your experiences jazz_1980 as a new EP3 owner, I just recently brought one over a Cupra R and am absolutely loving it. Keep us updated on your EP3 journey, already learnt alot that will no doubt be useful in the future!!

Hello All & Merry Christmas!

Just an update, its finally happened. I said I was not going to get my car modified but I did lol Right first off got an unknown brand cat back straight through exhaust system with a nice blue flame tip (got from integrastella from ebay) sounds aggressive will try upload a video if I can of the sound etc. Also got the car lowered on Tenzo R uprated springs with a drop of 50mm, japseed adjustable rear camber arms and eibach front adjustable bolts. Got the whole car worked on from Autocraft Wolverhampton. Yesterday got the geometry set up and it steers even better then before! The car does not rub or scrape when I get on or off the driveway (which I was worried about) so all good so far and very happy with the look of the car (aggressive stance etc) Still Awesome Cars!
