My NHB EP3

Hi guys and girls,

thought it was about time i posted something about my car even though its still sitting in the garage :(. Ever since i first see a Civic Type-R i fell in love with them, and have been waiting till the time came that i was old enough / had enough money to purchase one myself, anyway around march last year i began my hunt, still not with much money behind me i opted for going for a damaged car that i can repair at my own pace and make it my own, after 2 months of searching i found a 02 NHB Type-R on ebay with a knocking engine, and after a 2 hour round trip in a rather cramped transit flatbed, i returned home 1300 pound down but with a CTR in the garage:

Now im not really the type of person that takes photos so thats the only one i have before i got to work.
First job was to rip out the old knackered engine that had suffered 175,000 miles:

Now the engine sat on a stand for a couple of months while i pondered the idea of rebuilding it or just buying another one, while i was thinking that over i started on a few other bits,
first was the interior trim that clearly seen a lot of use so down to the local halfords for some paint and i ended up with this:

Quick rub down and couple coats of primer:

And then the final colour:

And that's about as far as i got for a while as i only work as a shop assistant so i haven't got the greatest car fund going.
so started looking at what i could be doing that cost me nothing. So after a Newbie post on here someone told me to have a word with integrastella on ebay,
so a couple days later and having to take out a small loan from the bank of mum n dad, i when to see the man and i returned with and nice new engine:

Well ... a used slightly dirty engine, so i started cleaning it up after quite a long time and lots of grease remover and a tonne of VHT paint i ended up with :

A Red sump:

A Red intake mani:

A black fuel rail:

And various other red and black parts that i forget to take photos of ... whoops ... anyways after months of work as i only have one day off a week i ended up with a sparking engine:

just as i had planned to start piecing the car back together i noticed the engine bay...

So out came the marigolds and a bucket of degreaser and after a days work i ended up with this:

Then the engine placed in its new home:

Now after that i was clean out of funds, so started on the cheap stuff...

Brake calipers:

New exhaust,, as the car came with an invisible one:

Fixed a few dents and scrapes around the car, and removed all the previous owners stickers just leaving the type r owners ones
no photos for that as i forgot again!! Sorry, made a few purchases including a complete silicone hose kit, thermal intake gaskets, and some mud flaps that i thought may look okay on the car:

made a bit of an eager purchase of some component speakers but thought they were a bargain at 40 quid !!

then almost a year down the line and this is pretty much where im sitting now, just started refurbing the wheels as something to do while i try and get some money in the bank, engine has yet to be started but should hopefully be getting it running next week as im off for two weeks just waiting on some gearbox oil and the last couple of bits from honda, as i may have accidentally thrown away some bolts and bits i needed whoops.
anyways have a couple photos of the wheels only one completed so far but i thought id go for satin white :) :

Things i would like to do before the car gets back on the open road :
new wheel bearings
poly bushes on suspension
brake caliper refurb
windows tinted
repair rip in drivers seat
hopefully a full respray
fast road setup

and thats about all i can think of in this moment of time, there's alot more i would like to do to the car but as iv said i have virtually no funds and im only 20 so am trying to steer away from engine mods as im gonna have a hard enough time trying to insure it as it is haha. anyways sorry for the long post and hope people enjoy reading. will update as often as i can, and i really hope these pictures work as this is my first time trying to do anything like this :)

Wow that looked like a job and a half. Fair play to you fella for getting this far with it! :smt023

Thanks 4kas and Loxy, yeah its been tough but im sure it will be worth it in the end knowing that almost every nut n bolt on it is brand new :)

As above mate good job :) big credit for going out and buying one with a damaged motor and putting in some serious man hours!!

Cheers mark!! its slow progress so might get boring but will update when i do anything! and ill try to remember to get a few more snaps along the way :)

Looks wicked mate! Do you fancy doing my car some time soon?? lol jkz, Makes me wanna rip my engine apart and start giving it a make over lol Good work!!

Hi all,
quick update, spent a few hours down the garage today small bit of bad news, factory paint on the wheels has reacted with the paint i used, so gonna have to dip the wheels in stripper and go back to bare metal, probably should have done it in the first place but hey only a small set back.
but anyways most of the day has been spent on the engine, youll have to ignore the dust on everything will be giving it a good clean once everything is back, just waiting on few more bolts and things from honda then should hopefully be able to get the last few bits on and get her running !!!!

Thanks jimbo !! and nah im alright thanks chris, after this dont think i will be attempting much more work for a while haha

Another small update after today, very very close to getting her started just need exhaust manifold bolts to arrive and then ill fire her up:

sorry about the bad photo will try and get some more during daylight.

just have the suspension to sort out now so i can get her back on all fours!!!

Man i could really get used to this time off work, loving spending every day down the garage!! Although the bank account is not enjoying it!!

Right so woke up this morning to some nice little parcels:

So off down the garage i trot with plenty of cigs and some good old monster ... well after i worked out what bolts are for what.

Please excuse the state of the car my garage seems to have an unlimited supply of dust to smother everything in !! its long overdue a was i think!! but after a few hours of tarting around i ended up with this:

24529FF8-D548-41E9-AEED-B3A1407B949E-24109-000021EE66F86C96_zps427b5444.jpg

Now i didnt get her started today as i forgot to put the battery on charge last night :( but its on charge now so should have a first start vid tomorrow :p

decided to get on with the suspension instead just really doing what i do best and slapping Hamerite all over the place :)

E0D2F648-DFB5-452F-9084-B2767246940B-24109-000021EE5B12B251_zps70099af6.jpg

Forgot to get piccys of the suspension whoops and i just realised man i missed alot will touch up tomorrow :) ,,, and after spending some time under the car i have decided to underseal the hole thing but its getting there whoop whoop !!!

Right got the engine finished today, turned it over not firing,, after searching around noticed i had forgot to connect the injector earth oops, anyways connected it up turn the key starts straight away running smooth as , about a minute in she starts to stutter a bit and then died completely, and now i have nothing when i turn the key no fuel pump prime and no crank, can hear all relays clicking as they should but still nothing, getting frustrating now as i cant get my head round it.

so this is my cry for help as im stumped :( pleaseeee lol

It's not the immobiliser is it? seems strange that it fired then stopped and now you can't hear the fuel pump on ignition  Take it you that you have tried disconnecting the battery to see if it makes a difference...

Hiya Adam , and yeah i have been doing some research myself , found an old post on ctro i think it was , and yeah looks like it could be immobiliser trouble, will have a good look over it tomorrow as apparently its shuts down ignition and fuel delivery so this may be my issue,, great first name by the way ;) haha

Thanks buddy ! have herd the alarm on this year ctr was abit poop anyways so am tempted to pull it all out and put something different in there!

So found out today the prob was defiantly the immobiliser causing the issues so i decided to strip the whole thing out, which left me with a car looking like this:

F8BE2C45-B5D1-43B1-9AA3-7A86EC53C6BD-25616-000023E2F85A262D_zps585af97f.jpg

but no longer an alarm / immobiliser and she starts and runs a dream !! all this mess was removed:

and while the car was stripped out i decided to fit some component speakers which snugly fit into the rear speaker cutouts :) yay!!
