New Honda Civic.

Spies in Poland have come up with this.

Now look at the magazine image and then look at the Spyshot that I've posted before. I'll be very fecking surprised if this isn't that far off. Look at the door handles, front and rear. Look at the angle of the bonnet and rear hatch.

Side profile has a similar look to the FD2. I know it's hard to tell properly under all that cover, so it'll probably look nothing like it once it's off...

Shame there won't be a Type R version :( .

Word is the 1.6 turbo engines that are being rolled out in the next gen of cars will come in 160bhp and 200bhp variants.

Richard Hammond in the Mirror a couple of weeks back said his 'spies' had said the CR-Z was getting both and the 200bhp one would be a Type R.

I can imagine the Civic getting the 160bhp engine, it is just whether they put the 200bhp one in as well and then call it a Type R or whether the 200bhp would be the new Type S?

Still, imagine the irony of doing an engine transplant form a CR-Z into the Civic!

That being said, a remap, filter and exhaust might take the 160nhp engine it up to 200bhp anyway.

With regard the turbo 1.6 and 2.0 they may do a similar thing to the BMW Mini and various Audis (iirc) and basically produce one engine, the 160 just tuned to produce less power, cheaper to mass produce one engine and fit a different brain. In which case unlocking the 200bhp might be insanely simple. Only thing is they may make a few changes to the 200 in suspension etc, though if it's anything like the recent "Mugen" and CW edition Civics it may be mainly terrible cosmetic choices...

Let's hope it hasn't got a stupid price tag. If that picture from the mag looks anything like it then I think it would be awesome. I just hope the arse isn't as fugly at the FN2s.

Honda has previewed its next-generation Civic for the North American market with a pair of new concepts at the Detroit motor show.

Both the coupe and saloon concepts feature evolutionary styling based around the outgoing European Civic Type R model, also taking inspiration from the CR-Z hybrid.

The next Honda Civic will go on sale in North America in the spring, but a bespoke European version will be shown later in the year. The models at Detroit are US-only and do not preview the next Swindon-built model that European buyers will be offered.

Looking at the pictures, the four-door saloon seems to carry its length and lines better. It seems better composed to my eye. The hatch-back looks slightly awkward at the rear and the face is a nod to the Nissan GTR. It is well sculpted, less fussy than the FN2, but needs a small lip or spoiler to finish the rear off.

I find that some cars suit the three-door shape better than the four-door sibling - the BMW M3, VW Golf, EP3 Civic and new Mazda2 as examples. I think a look in the metal is needed.
