Smashing her back doors in

Jayne rang me this morning at 8am, I was already on the works phone so ignored it as I usually do thinking I'll ring her back in a bit.

I was on the blower to the office and about a minute later I get the chap on the other end of the line saying, "Jayne's just rang your desk phone, can you ring her back." Right, this can't be good.

I phone her up and the first words are, "We're both OK but we've been in an accident." I start thinking great, I'm at least 45 minutes away from where she is and I'm about 15 minutes from the agreed time to take this site down to switch it over onto it's new link.

Jayne had stopped in a line of traffic and the car behind apparently didn't see the four cars in front of her pulling up to a stop, 50 limit road. Jayne said the woman was still accelerating when she saw them stopped and hit the brakes. Jayne just had to sit there and wait for the hit.

Long story short, Police and Ambos arrived and checked her and James over, both OK but Jayne's got seatbelt marks on her chest, banged her knee on the steering column, hit her calf on the underside of the seat, scratched her glasses which went flying into the footwell and she has started complaining of a stiff back and twinges moving her neck which I've told her will only get worse. She's got an existing appointment at the docs on Tuesday, so she'll be mentioning it then.

In short Jayne's a star sorted everything out. She rang the AA to get the car recovered after the accident, AA Accident Management has kicked in, they've contacted the woman's insurance (who has admitted full liability by the way) and repair has been authorised. Her EX has been taken away for repair, estimated two weeks, we've already got the courtesy car sat outside the house and the PI forms are in the post.

So the pics.

Jayne's car, doesn't look so bad but it'll be new upper and lower bumper, mounts, mounts straightened, new tailgate, possibly locking mechanism, seatbelt pre-tensioners at a guess. I'm sure they'll find more.

Car is worth about £7-8k so I'll be stunned if it gets written off.

"You should have seen the other guy!" Well erm...

Both airbags deployed, even though she was the only person in the car. I would expect her car will be written off looking at the damage, even broke her windscreen. Jayne said the radiator had started to dump its contents on the road, doesn't show up on the pics. Yes it's a Focus if you can't tell.

Jayne's first proper jokey reaction to it all was, "We'll that's decided it, next car is definitely a Honda."

Cheers bud.

She's still rolling Jap for the time being, but of the diesel variety.

Deep! Glad Jaynes not too bad and the little one is ok. The damage to your isn't bad at all compared to the focus.

WTF has her ex got to do with it? Oh... I see.

Mate I know how you feel when Caz crashed the EP3 I was over 100 miles away, I got home quick, she ended up in hospital mostly shock but still.

Wow! not good news to hear, but glad they are both ok after what seems quite a substantial impact.

only just noticed this, glad Jayne and James are ok. Car looks to have stood up well it the impact.

Glad everyone's okay.

I thought the silver car was a Clio at first.

It's the same size as one now.

Glad they're alright John. Good to hear it should be easy enough to sort out too, no difficult arguments over the fault.

That Focus is toast. Expect to see as a Cat C/D special on ebay around Xmas time

On a more serious note, definitely mention to doctor - if it weren't for the weekend in the way I'd advise going sooner. The sooner you start addressing any injuries, the less hassle they cause later. I suspect ins. co. will be sending her to see a specialist too.

One thing to watch for will be any "mental" recurrance of the incident - playback or images running through the mind. IME it is more liable when you've seen the impact coming.

Good to hear that both are safe and ok mate. Goes to show how strong the car really is.

Just glad everyones alright dude.

As has been said before, the car is only a lump of metal and can be replaced. I also thought the other car wasa Corsa

Well, filled up the Avensis after 306.2 miles as it should be going back tomorrow as Jayne should be getting her car back.

Trip computer said 46.8mpg, actual consumption was 36.1mpg.

Opinions of a 2.0 Diesel Avensis MY10? Slow until 1,800 rpm then not much but better until 3,500 rpm, then nothing. Economy on a par with the 1.8 Civic. No rattles until tonight but I think it was one of the rear headrests, smooth ride, awful steering feel.

So in summary, no thanks...

Haven't got the Civic back yet. It was still waiting on a part that should be delivered in the morning.

Pics at night in the rain may follow.
