EP3 I am a total car noob but the Ep3 has always been my dream car since i was about 10.

Stick a Tegiwa induction on and thank me after. This will give you want you want short term, I'm also certain

Get the Tegiwa for some noise, then have a think about the longer plan and what you want from the car to save doing similar things twice (In my opinion, of course). :)

You know what I guess you're both right, why spend 200 for a placebo noise when I could spend 380 for actual performance and genuine noise. Will the tegiwa make it a bit noisier outside of Vtech range still? The thing is I've caught the bug of doing things myself.... de wipered my car, doing the door speakers, there's a tutorial on YouTube on fitting the Tegiwa yourself which is so tempting.....does £380 for it seem like a good price? It's the cheapest I can find currently. And what is the "scuttle panel insert" is that essential?

Yes it does outside of vtec + improved throttle response. Could do yourself but as above, it's essential for the Tegiwa. £380 sounds rights from memory. I wouldn't bother with the fancy blue or red hose pipes if you want to keep costs down

Personally I'd get an Injen or AEM CAI, they're cheaper, arguably perform better and no fecking about with the scuttle panel to stop it from rattling. The only downside is that it leaves a gap in the engine bay. As has been mentioned, hydrolock really isn't an issue. TGM race cars have used these in 24h races without issue, some have been in monsoon conditions with minimal protection around the filter because most of the plastic is removed.

Chasing 300... Your insurance company is going to bend you over hard :D

CTR Nick I'm not chasing the 300 don't you worry haha, just wanted a rough idea of how far my OEM exhaust will go. Yeah Chris the guys at TGM did specifically recommend the AEM.

When your policy is up and you want to look at further mods I would definitely recommend moving to a specialist insurer who can handle the modifications.

I would get an exhaust or intake for now to meet your needs of wanting more noise.

But seeing you are still in probationary period on licence, I would leave it at that and just enjoy the car for what it is.

You will continue to learn more and more about how the car responds to your inputs and how to improve.

Forget chasing power, improve handling and braking next, then continue to learn the car inside out with each handling improvement etc.

What tyre's have you got?
Money could be much better spent here also

^ So much this.

The Civic's got a lot more power than you can usefully use, enough to get you into a lot of trouble faster than you can blink if you're not careful. You're young (Daikiyamane), so maybe you haven't managed to make enough mistakes to realise how badly things can go wrong, but there's a lot to be said about making sure those limits (of grip, braking distance, etc.) are extended as far as possible before chasing power.

Without mapping there won't be a huge return in terms of power (and some possible dead-spots as mentioned) with regard intakes, so what you'll be looking at without a lot more money is a bit of noise. Is that really worth it?

Main reason I was so ****ed off when someone I know said I wasn't suited to having a "performance" car. I've had mine a year and I'd say I'm still only comfortable and safe using 1/2 of the power it has. Usually because I've hit 70* and run out of motorway but the point still stands.

Indeed, and it's very easy to get to that point very quickly. Slowing down from that point or running out of space on a bend that's sharper than expected (hello Welsh roads, Devon, etc.) because of lack of signage or way too much bravado is something you only need to get wrong once.

Plus with these cars there's probably a grand you can spend to make sure the alignment is right, all calipers are sliding freely, drop links renewed, bushes replaced, new engine mounts, new clutch etc etc.

But come on lads, we were all young once. I can totally see why the OP wants more noise/power. It's what I did with my first CTR. Till I wrote it off. But then I got a second one and modded it again before finally getting a DC5. Which I wrote off.

Ha ha

Jimbo I am buying 4 AD08R's on the 1st of August because my local tire dealer can't get them until then, with regards to exhaust for me personally there's only two options and that's OEM or the Legalis R, due to the fact they're both twin I don't want to put a single look exhaust on mine really, as mentioned the Legalis is very expensive and I can't really warrant spending 800 just yet. I am happy to pay 400 for some more noise though as childish as it seems and perhaps non-sensical in terms of the order at which I'm wanting to change my car. I am probably going to go to Flux insurance when mine runs out in October. Mike I hear what you're saying and perhaps I should look into some handling modifications first but I haven't even started my research in that field yet will have a look in that section of the forum. I wouldn't say 25 is TOO young I am sensible enough to know when I can push my car, I am totally in love with it though so I'm hoping there's no threat of me writing it off.....I think for now I'll do intake and obviously my tires and then have a think from there. Hoping an intake shouldn't bump my insurance too high but I've essentially got 2k to spend on it as of right now, 1k of that pretty much gone on an intake and 4 tires but I'm an absolute sucker for spending more to get the best. I've looked slightly into coilovers and it seems as though a good set of those is about 1500. Do you all run non standard Anti Roll bars? That seems like a relatively inexpensive change and sounds like it is quite beneficial? I'm sorry to hear that you've written two cars off though Chris, can't imagine how sad both of those days must've been....

Fair points all. It's fun, and if you've got the money why not :)

You're wiser than I then ;)

Have fun, it's a great car to mess with, right on the cusp of electronic-everything but just far back enough to make it something you can play with in a home garage.
