They offer a bit more flexibiltiy than the Kpro and are based on a Gems ECU.
Mike (typerkid) is running one on his DC5

Are you sure its a standalone unit?
I was going to go for one before i went for Kpro. It would have to be hooked up to your existing ECU for the Air con and other electrical to work, abit like the Unichip.

I was under the impression that it was a standalone unit in the sense it controls everything itself to do with engine parameters and doesn't need the stock ECU to do that but i have read there have been Aircon issues and things like coolant temp guages not reading so having to put a new sensor in etc.. with it.
I never really looked into the AEM, but from speaking to Mike it seems a step up from the Kpro in flexibilty/functions terms.

At the end of the day whats better at running your car than a standard ECU, this was the reason I think that Hondata choose to modify the existing ECU.
The AEM is a very good ECU though and is used on many other applications but for me I prefer the Hondata as they are focused on Honda engines.

Yes, I think Doug explained that the number and/or resolution of the mapping points was much greater in the Hondata than AEM. AEM has real time mapping, but you only have to wait less than 10 secs to upload a k-pro map anyway. The number of new maps coming out from Hondata for various cams and headers looks pretty impressive now.

simonprelude said:The most important part of an AEM set up is the tuner, if the car is only making stock and it has mods then I would suggest gettg someone better to tune the car.
I have seen AEM tuners get 10-20 % increases out of a stock car, so with mods if done properly then there is no way that you will only get stock results.

So you don't call a AEM a motorsport ECU then Paul...
How come these have been used in F1 cars in the past then :?:
