HONDA RELEASES PRICING FOR THE CIVIC TYPE R

  • Entry level model comes in at £29,995
  • GT-version costs £32,295, an extra £2,300 for what will be the most popular model
  • PCP pricing set to be under £300 a month
  • Civic Type R expected to hit retail forecourts in July

Honda UK has confirmed that the new and much anticipated Honda Type R will be priced sub £30k with the entry level model costing a shade under at £29,995 on the road. The GT version will cost an additional £2,300 at £32,295 on the road and will come with a host of extras.

PCP pricing brings the new Civic Type R to an even wider customer base, with payments set to be under £300 a month at 5.9% APR with a 30% deposit.
GT drivers will benefit from forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition system, lane departure warning, blind spot information including cross traffic monitor, dual control climate control, rain sensing auto wipers, dusk sensing auto lights, front and rear parking sensors, interior red ambient lighting, high beam support and Honda’s new infotainment system, CONNECT, with GARMIN navigation system.
Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on Monday night at the exclusive Honda preview event, the new 2015 Civic Type R will be powered by the most extreme and high-performing engine in the 22-year history of the red ‘H’ badge, signalling the start of a new performance era for the Honda brand.
Leon Brannan, Head of Cars at Honda UK, commented: “We are fully expecting a huge demand for the all new made in Britain Civic Type R and already have over 100 pre-orders in the order bank before our customers have even taken a test drive or seen the final production version.
“This is the year Honda is back and sees our return to the performance hatch segment. The level of excitement around this utterly awesome brute of a car is outstanding and we have high expectations.”

NEW HONDA CIVIC TYPE R THROWS DOWN NÜRBURGRING GAUNTLET

  • Honda announces Nürburgring lap time for Civic Type R development car
  • 7 minutes 50.63 seconds lap time is unmatched in the front-wheel drive hot hatch class
  • Lap time achieved in development car with technical specifications representative of the final production car

At the world premiere of its all-new Civic Type R at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show (5 - 15 March; Stand 4250, Hall 4), Honda announced that a development car had achieved a 7 minutes 50.63 seconds lap time of the legendary 20.8 km/12.9 mile Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=1lXGmjt1FtQ&app=desktop
This time is unmatched by any other front-wheel drive performance hatchback.

The lap time was achieved during the final phase of pre-production testing in May 2014 by a Civic Type R development car. The development car was in a standard state of engine tune, with suspension, drivetrain, exhaust, brakes and the aerodynamic package identical to those of the production Civic Type R.

The removal of equipment such as air conditioning, the front passenger seat and audio equipment offset the additional weight of a full roll cage (installed specifically for safety reasons and not to add rigidity).

During the test cycle, the development car used production-specification high-rigidity 19-inch alloy wheels. These were fitted with 235/35R19 road tyres being developed in conjunction with a major European tyre manufacturer especially for the new Civic Type R. The test cycle during which the 7 minutes 50.63 seconds lap time was achieved was part of the tyre’s development and testing process.

Honda has now vowed to follow up this achievement by sending a production Civic Type R around the Nürburgring Nordschleife later this year with the aim of setting a new lap record for a front-wheel drive production car.

Highlights of the latest generation in Honda’s cult car dynasty is a world-first application of Honda’s new 2.0 litre VTEC TURBO engine, aggressive function-led styling, and advanced new chassis technologies, combining to deliver one of the most immersive and rewarding driving experiences available in any sector.

The new Civic Type R goes on sale across Europe in summer 2015.

I spec'd up an Audi S3 with some decent toys for a friend and it came in around the £32K marker.

Makes me wonder what the quality of this will be like compared it's German counter parts.

£32k for a 2wd turbo Civic?! Sorry, its £33k.

Utter madness. Surely only one for the fanboys.

If you've got the money go German, if you've got less go for the Ford or Vauxhall.

Where have you been hiding recently Tec, you fecker ? Oh, and I agree with what you've said above. :smt023

Some comments fron CTRO.

The FN2 Concept was extremely close to the production vehicle and you know what happened there. A lot of people said the concept looked gash, so what did Honda do, they made it anyway.

With the new Concept the majority of people, including me said "Wow, that looks EPIC, me want!" And what did Honda do then? That's right, they said oh, hang on, they like it... Er... lets not make that, lets change it and screw it up.

It looks like someone bought a standard civic, modified the front end, then ran out of cash. That front bumper and arch, then that rear arch. Serious fail there. I could accept the spoiler due to legal restrictions, but that rear arch is tragic.

The front end looks good and is pretty close to the concept, the rear end is shocking and those rear guards look ugly.
I hope someone from honda is reading this.... why wouldn't they at least have the flared rear guards with the vents in them, it would of looked good if these had of stayed.

Don't watch the robbery advert again if you intend on buying this car

It's got plenty of power/torque, massive brakes, a Limited Slip Diff, what looks like a very nice interior and it certainly won't be mistaken for a bland Euro box on the M25. If you get all that for £30k, then maybe some people also want the moon on a stick as well?!

There was always going to be something for car enthusiasts to complain about it. The hot hatch market has never had it so good.

That last sentence of yours is exactly why this one needed to have a bit more in terms of looks. There are lots of other options. From concept to this is bait-and-switch. The lack of the concepts flared wheel arches will probably cost Honda many thousands of sales.

It does look a little odd. The front wheel arches look flared, the rears like flat.

Me talking now, if the production model had been like the blue one I'd have been interested.

It's growing on me too. Wish I had that sort of money, if I ever do get one I'll wait a few years for a used one.
Wonder if black will still be the faster colour ;)

I've done some man maths.

I'm counting on a few assumptions here so it could all be wrong but...

A 1yr old FK2 GT, maybe £26K (20% depreciation in yr 1)
Add 2yrs extended Honda warranty £600
less my Croakus in 3yrs time -£11k

Giving balance to finance of £15,600.

The best deal on Comparethemeerkat is Norton at 4% over 4 years (amount of warranty now left) is £351.70 per month.

That's still a **** ton of money for a Honda, plus in 3 years who knows what the interest rates will be.

7:50 Ring lap time bloody hell that's dam fast even beats the last gen 911 turbo
Have on earth did it do that with 180bhp less

Interestingly, the press loves it. You can't do good to everyvone, guess, Honda is more interested in the press review and less in ours

its not a production car, its development.

It's got a roll cage making it stiffer, probably all sorts of little things that wouldn't even go near the final car including super sticky tyres. Rather than posting a super tuned version, they should have run a production. I doubt that will be anywhere close to the video, so what's the point? I think a 911 will be faster. I'd certainly rather have a 911!

What's the response over on CTRO?

Probably still waiting to do their big, exclusive, Honda-approved reveal of the new car.

Said this over on Civinfo, but no-one on here has mentioned it either - what about the variance in the driver? I used the example that if Hamilton was in the Seat Leon and Vettel was in the CTR, the Seat would probably be faster over the 8 minutes as Hamilton is a far better driver. Thoughts?

A few things I will say and I will probably get flamed. Technology to go this fast costs a lot of money. If any of you have built a track car using brand new high quality, and I mean high quality not micky mouse budget parts, will realise that the asking price, while high, isn't that unreasonable. Hell, it's quicker than a Porsche that would cost twice the money. Ok, it doesn't look as 'wow' as a Porsche, but personally I am starting to like it a lot now i've seen it properly. Those brakes alone can't be far off off £3k? I reckon if you add it all up parts wise you would figure it's about right. A few pages back someone suggested an Audi TT instead of this. Really?? I am not sure many people get the point of this car...

Hell, a Renanultsport Megan is what, the best part of £25k new?? At least you get build quality and reliabitly with the type r. A ten year old Renault will be fooked, whereas this will still probably be spot on. I know my ten year old EP3 had only two rattles and zero mechanical issues. It still drove like a new car. I have just sold the EP and bought a Clio cup 200, and it's pretty much new. Has more rattles already than the EP. I am debating whether it's actually as fun too (you didn't hear me say that!)

I can undersrand people beefing about the aesthetics and the fact the design hasn't remained exactly as per the concept (me included), but the performance of it surely has to be appreciated. Modern people are so hard to please and sometimes don't appreciate how good they've got it!

I like it now. Seeing it in the video and the look of it in the background of the unveiling video, it just looks fat at the front. Really looking forward to seeing it reviewed by Evo and Top gear, and seeing the Stig give it a spanking around the test track.

If you want status and to fit in with your neighbours, buy a BMW or Audi rep wagon, if you want enjoyment and racing pedigree, get one of these. I saw a recent evo review on the Audi RS3 (Chris Harris) and he didn't rate it really. Go figure. Be really interesting to see what he thinks of this beast!

The only criticism I would put forward is that while Honda claim the cage adds no rigidity, even a simple bolt in cage does improve handling. I know because i've fitted one in a previous car and experienced the change personally. I would imagine they bolted it to plates welded to the chassis, in which case it would almost certainly add some rigidity, even if only a small amount. But when chasing times and seconds are involved, it all adds up. Was the Megans time for a fully stock vehicle? And the Cupra? Those are the only other cars with similar times right? They also don't mention what tyres are used on the test lap. That also makes a huge difference. Still, it's a great achievement for Honda nevertheless, and if they can replicate the performance with a fully stock produciton vehicle all the internet warriors and naysayers will have to eat their words. Go on Honda do it.

I agree with you Lewis completely. Plus, if you spec the list price of the Seat and Golf R, they are at least as dear or dearer. As per the other two lap recorders, they were not bone stock cars, Seat had aircon and stereo removed if I recall correctly, and the Renault has a rear rollcage, don't it

Couldn't agree with you more.

What you can buy for £30K or less if you go nearly new.
