My Mazda RX8

My mate was looking at buying one with a blown engine and dropping a V8 in the bay as you can an off the shelf conversion kit.

They are so cheap it's not a bad idea, I may go look at v8 conversion kits, just out of interest though.

Nope still going strong, and it's not actually using as much oil as I expected, fuel on the other hand I just don't think about it as I may cry lol.

Well it finally went bang a few weeks ago! Developed an oil leak from one of the cooler pipes but seeing as I was driving down the motorway and unaware of this the No 2 rotor has been starved of oil and shat itself for lack of a better term.
The engine cut out and I had to be recovered to mine via the RAC.
I then got a guy to take it to the garage for me, but when he came to put it on his truck he connected the winch to the air conditioning pipe as he didn't look properly what he was doing and twisted the whole thing nearly off the front of the car when pulling it up the truck! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at this point and he looked like he might when he realised what he had done. He then got the towing eye sorted properly that was in the boot and goes to the back of the car, half way up the ramp and the whole towing eye comes flying out the back of the car towards me as I'm holding the button for the winch! The idiot didn't wind it in properly and it undone itself. Needless to say I wasn't impressed and did it the second time myself to make sure it was tight.
Finally got it loaded and the guy is saying he will pay for the damage, I didn't see the point in losing it with him so just accepted he would pay and charged him more than the cost of getting it fixed, £400 bill for him.
I got it to a specialist who quoted me £2600-2700 for the repair and said at that cost a full rebuild would make more sense but that would be between £4500-5000! The cars barely worth £1500 maybe £2000 at a push.
It's now sat in my garage as I decide whether to sell it spares or repair, or I might have a go at stripping the engine out myself and buy parts as and when funds allow. For those who don't know I've just bought my own place so have zero money for cars at the moment.

I needed something cheap then for getting to work and had a grand to spend, a mate in work found an MX5 that had been well looked after and all the major work that these old cars need had been done. I took it for a drive and what a fun little car it is, picked it up last week and been having fun ever since.
It is so much fun to throw around down the lanes round me and faster cars get caught in the bends easily. Top down in the sun last weekend is exactly what these cars are about and just what I needed after the RX8 nightmare.

I'll take a look at that over the weekend. I can imagine I may need a second mortgage to pay for that though. :D

NOOOOOOOOO, please God no, not with the Gay8. 2JZ the damned thing and then skid the ar5e off it ;)

http://v8mazda.com/ - it'll only cost you a little bit ;)

The videos of this guy at work are glorious, so much care taken, everything's just so neat and tidy.

I just finished watching this and that thing is ridiculous. I don't know were that guy gets his money but he spent a serious amount doing that car. I'm guessing summit racing gave him good discount too for all the advertising he did for them. :D

If you supply the engine I'm willing to give it a go. Also which car do you think it should go in?

Agreed, about all of it :)

However, the care and attention he showed... I've watched a lot of build videos and this one stands out. I felt _really_ bad when I watched what they did in the ASS 2000 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW2lut9Lv8s) build, I wish that guy had done it instead.

A 2J would cost you way less to do than a V8 conversion bud. Even with all the work.

That's a bugger Shawn. When my xtrail went pop all I could think about was "well that's £7000 down the drain" I ended up cutting my losses and running.
I think if you do get another engine will the car still feel the same to you??
Good find on the mx5, let's see some pictures. I'm desperately wanting a two seater soft top, but we're having an extension being planned then built so we've got no spare cash till its done. So no extra car this summer....again.

Agreed but I have zero spare cash, with the RX8 I'll probably just try and strip it out and buy bits as and when I can, it's in the garage so not causing any problems.
As for the MX5 I'm not messing with it at all. A 2J conversion would be awesome but I would then have to buy a 3rd car for work to do it or get rid of the Rex.

Like I said I would rather get the bits and the specialist near me said he could see what he has to keep costs down and would rebuild it for me, I would just have to take it out and put it all back.
I'll get some pics of the MX5 after it's had a good clean which I may do later if the rain stays off.
Shame you can't get your summer car but your new place does look awesome mate.

Sorry bud, I meant the RX to go 2J conversion. But as you say, if you're short of the cash, then that makes it a bit of a bitch

You would have to strip everything out of the engine bay and change where everything goes to fit that in. It would be a cool conversion though.
