FK8 Tyres...help a noob out....FK8

If you're in Essex, first of all hello :p (Have a look at Essex Honda on facebook :) ) - I'd suggest going to Jet Wheel & Tyre in Benfleet.

Jake who does the alignments there has a K20 EG, so you'll get a decent service - Only £5 for a check, and it's a proper Hunter laser alignment rig. If you get tyres fitted there, you'll even get the H lined up with the valve as it should be ;) - I live right across the road from Elite, and I know my dad had some issues with them in the past...
Hi bud, I'm just over the River in Rochester. Funnily enough when I was getting the tyres fitted I noticed they had a big swanky Hunter alignment rig right there, so I asked them to check it and subsequently got them to adjust the front and rear as they were both out, the front by some margin. All good now, steering is straight and true and hopefully tyres will wear evenly now, as the old ones were very uneven. Cost £60 so not too bad for front and rear alignment. Oh and the Michelin PS4s have lots of grippy grip ☺.

15% off on Blackcircles this weekend FLASH15 makes the two tyres £380.38 fitted. I don’t need tyres just yet but got them as I have two spare wheels, always handy to have. Standard size.

Another one here to vouch for 255/35/20's had mine on for just over a year now and definitely keeping this size, as said before they just fill the arches better and can handle pot holes a bit better too imo

I will also be sticking with the 255 35 20 size. I agree that they look better in the arches, this size gives the wheels better protection and tyres are also cheaper in this size. The Michelin PS4S are lasting way longer than the Conti 6’s.

Had my FK8 for about a year now and loving it. Got a dreaded slow puncture on my existing Continentals. Looking to replace it and though that'll be easy. Well apparently not, found so many forum posts about getting the right replacement and its a really specific Continental part number you need. Then am reading that people dont really rate them from a wear point of view and maybe the P 4s are better. But then I got confused becuase of the lip being discussed on the Contis. And then to make it worse am not sure if it's a rubbish idea to have one non matching tyre? (keep in mind im typically the person that takes their car to the garage to have screen wash put in).

So basically am confused - can anyone demistify all of this?

Oh and hello by the way, will get some pics and stuff up!
Just take the details off one of the other three tyres and thats all what you need. What were you thinking putting a replacement tyre of another make? All manufacturers tyres have their own characteristics so 4 all-around will act the same, putting one different, especially on the front means it will behave different to the one on the other side. You will therefore get a mean performance of the 2.
If you're not sure ask on anything re the fk8 come on here first before making a fast decision and we should be able to advise. Or ask re tyres a tyre specialist.
Regards Fred.

Just personal but I like the rear end to slip a little, as such I run Michelin’s on the front and Conti’s on the rear, the wear rate on the Michelins is far superior, tend to find they warm up quicker than the Conti’s as such have to be careful when cold. I really enjoy the way the car handles like this. The Conti’s have marginal turn in improvement over and above but we are talking only when dry and tyres warmed up.

Hello does the tyre effect your handling? did you fit them on the standard stock 20 inch alloy wheels which Honda supplied . Also will this affect your warranty ?

There is a difference in the handling with the higher side wall, I would like to try a stiffer side walled tyre when they need to be replaced again. I think they softer side wall of the PS4S is better on U.K. roads as it is less harsh over lumps and bumps however this does sacrifice some of the pointed handling the stock tyres provide. It’s a trade off.

Yes this is on the OEM wheels and I would highly doubt there would be any issue with regards to your warranty.

I've just had two bits of warranty work completed and i don't think they would have even looked at the tyres. Wasn't anything to do with wheels/suspension mind. Hopefully never have to test this directly but i would be surprised it would make a difference unless they were wildly different size tyres.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I've just had an mot fail for split in the rim protection of a tyre.... Gives me an excuse to change to better front tyres

Is it okay to switch the front pair to 255/35/20 even tho the back will stay OEM 240 for a while?

I doubt that 255 would suit, as size recommendations are either 235 or 245.

But so long as the fronts match and the rears match (rather than all matching) then that generally isn't an issue so long as they are equal in terms of performance (such as OEM Conti rear and MP4S fronts, for example).

Mot fail? The rubber rim protection, unless it's damaged the sidewall should be ok as the rim protector is extra rubber that juts out to protect the rim if this has slight damage I don't see how it can effect the mot. As said above if the sidewall is damaged it will be a fail. Regards Fred

Yeah it's definitely the Rim protection part which is meant to help take damage. But the honda dealership put cords visible etc, no idea how.

Cheers, I meant to write 245/35/20. Hopefully it doesnt look hurrendous. They will be Michellin pilotsport 4 on the rear and eagle F1 on the front. I just really didn't want to drop upwards of £550+ for current prices to match the rears
