FK2 FK2 general discussion

I'd hate to think people would skimp on tyres, if mine need replacing before they're released I certainly won't be buying through Honda I dread to think what price they would have them at, I'd be scouting for deals on other high quality branded tyres & I guess others will to. It does seem Honda are still trying to make more money from this car by making these Honda only for 6mths

Agreed, biggest improvement you can make / worst detriment to any performance car, fitting the best / worst tyres available. I really don't understand it. A lot of the corvette crowd run around on what's most affordable and as the cars only do 2000 miles a year they use them for 7 years. Wtf.

You'll see them with T1R's and Parada Spec 2's before you know it!

Soo true, some people believe that spec 2's are decent all round tyre! I have just brought a new set of alloys but ditchfinders on and awaiting to buy some decent rubber! I cant even put my foot down as I am too scared I will loose control of the car!

You know you're going to buy one Lox! Looks awesome next to the ITR! Saying that, it also illustrates how well the ITR has ages as it still looks damn nice.

Re: tyres. Those conti's were developed specifically for the car so if it were me I'd swallow the cost and just buy another set. £30k on a car then trying to save money on tyres doesn't make sense. I guess Yoko AD08R's would possibly be the only alternative I'd consider if you really wanted to change them.

Ah who cares, they look awesome! I examined them up close at white city and yes they are filled by a plastic cover.

You know full well if someone put them on their EP3 or FN2 on here they'd have the shít ripped out of them, but when Honda put them on they're fine? No thanks Jeff.

They say you get what you pay for.

I am using Michelin Pilot Sport 3s on my EP3. The fronts are due to be replaced soon. They were fitted last August and they have done 20K . Not bad for an EP3 :)

Agreed if you going to spend 30K+ on a car you can afford to buy the proper tyres for it.

I went down to my local Honda dealer yesterday to test drive the new type r (fk2).

Wow! What a car this is. All I can say to anyone who hasn't is to firstly see one in the flesh as I had my doubts over the looks on certain pictures but they really do not do the car justice. Visually it looks stunning, and it is an absolute joy to drive. This thing has not a hint of under steer and flies through corners if you keep on the power. Personally, I like the sound of the turbo swooshing, not for everyone, but for me its great. The drive is completely different to my fn2 purely due to the different ranges of power. This thing literally pulls you in any gear. Driving position is completely different, but for the better, seats are amazing and the gearbox is the of the best I have ever used. And the endless list of extras make it an attractive price.

Had my doubts over white but have gone ahead and ordered one today. Yes it's going to cost me an arm and a leg, I may look back and think what the hell was I doing but this is one car I really want to own from new and enjoy for three or more years. I test drove a quattro a3 s tronic last week but just could not fall in love with it. I imagine the s3 to be the same (just a bit quicker and stiffer suspension), they are great cars, really refined but go dammit they are not as fun to drive.

Here are some images I took at my local dealer:

I'm a forum member on M3 cutters and I have been having a right good argument with those lads. The Type R beat the new M3 around a track in test and they can't handle the fact that on track this car is quicker. Obviously in a drag race the new M3 would win, but it seems that this 30k car is quicker overall than BMW's finest. What a car!

Could you see yourself buying one, perhaps in a couple of years?

Maybe. Got back in the FD2 after viewing that and the FD still feels superb. It's not that far behind it in the bhp stakes but obviously the FK has superior torque figures... FD still amazes me with its grip.
