FK2 FK2 general discussion

6k oil changes seem to be a performance Honda engine standard oil change interval for enthusiasts who want to preserve and prolong the performance of the motor. It’s not suggested or recommended by the manufacturer but everyone who does it (myself included) will attest to how happy the engine feels after an oil change. I can’t attest to the new turbo motors but it was certainly the case with the B and n/a K series.

Oil change every 6months???
I do 12,000miles a year and I need to change the oil every 6months? Why?

13k on the eagles, thats good. Whats the pilot sport 4s like for the FK2?

Aslong as its a champ white GT car I’ll be happy.

Get one with the service pack and you're covered anyway, most cars have the variable servicing turned off so annual oil change apart from the type r oil monitor service which as suggested monitors oil condition. I have the Piloy sport 4S's on mine and im very happy with them.

Exactly that,
Last few weeks I've felt the car hasn't been performing as it has in the past, (could be cold weather or even tescos fuel) but the oil on my dipstick isn't looking great, there's no way I would of let it run another 6 months so It's booked in Friday for an oil service.

To the OP as said look for one with a service package because if the monitoring system is active on that car then you could be looking at anything up to 4 oil changes a year, so 6 monthly changes isn't that bad

Wheres the best place to get the carbon packs dweezle?

Could try cox but I'm near 100% sure the interior package has ended, the spoilers do pop up on eBay and social media, luckily I pre-ordered from new and should be an easy sale if I sell up

Thanks that’s cleared it up for me.

As for the service pack I’ll be buying second hand and have seen the service pack on the car adverts but by the time I purchase the car could be 3yr+ old can I have the pack extended as i see its 5yr?

I looked on civic turbo last night, only one I could find with decals in that location was a couple who regular track and do their own work but I can't see it being them as they take it quite seriously

Unless it was the son "borrowed" it without them knowing sort of thing. Doesn't mention any drink/drug offences.

Tyres are reet, only flat on the bottom.

Honda have spent a lot of money on researching the best oil change interval. Much more than someone on a forum saying their oil is a bit discoloured. There is absolutely no point in changing oil before the service interval unless you like wasting money. Oil is very good these days, much better than 10 years ago.

The reason the oil discolours is because it's doing its job. It discolours more in Turbo'd cars because of the oil cooler and the fact it's extremely difficult to drain the oil that's inside it.

For a regular road car, stick to the manufacturer's service schedule. If you do track days or a lot of stop start driving on a cold engine then there may be merit in changing it more often. But unless someone takes a sample of oil and has it analyzed for fuel, copper, metals etc they really aren't qualified to say changing it more often is better.

Just my 2p.

The FK2 and FK8 use variable servicing. I experiencing this working in my FK2. I had 6k miles until my next service was due. Then did a track day and it would drop to 1800. It obviously measures the oil quality in some way.

As a rule I have an oil change before every track day unless it was recently changed. And certainly every 6 months. I had 3 oil changes in a year on my FK2. If you drive sensibly you could get 6k+ miles before needing a change.

The way BMWs do it is measure your fuel economy. The lower it is the fewer miles you have until your next service. I'm unsure if Honda does it the same way but it makes sense.

I still don't think for normal road driving that it's worth spending the money to have it changed more often.

Having had my system not activated by the dealer who's to say that my oil is running to the condition Honda spent time researching, best to be safe than sorry, in my eyes.
Having spent 3 years with the car I'm pretty certain I'm use to what colour the oil is at this point between services, 0w20 oil is for economy purposes only there's no way I would run a car 12 months on the stuff, hence why owners whose system is active are seeing anything up to 4 changes a year

I change mine 6 monthly regardless and always have done. For peace of mind more than anything. I like to know the engine oil is at its best or near as can be , for the price of an oil change at a specialist it’s circa £60-70 or roughly £10p.m which I wouldn’t miss.

Each to their own but I have always done it this way and don’t see me changing that any time soon - I’m on my 14th Type R and none have ever had any engine trouble.

I paid £77 for the oil service package from cox,
What I did notice was they sell the Honda Castrol oil (which my dealer uses) and they also sell Honda brand oil that's listed as a type 2 oil for the type R only, not sure what the type 2 is about but I've 6ltrs to try out
