Got my insurance renewal....

roflbot-zjmh.jpg

true. at the end of the day all i have is a mugen splitter, coilovers and an induction kit, oh and white wheels.

The coilovers arent a minor modification fella. What would happen if one of them were to fail due to being fitted wrong or something snapping. My friend's Escort RS had a suspension fail and he ended up in the central reservation and got bad whiplash, he got a pay out and had some money back on the car because he declared his mods.

We are all, especially Chris, offering sound advice. It really isn't the best thing to do with trying to screw over the "system". I held off fitting a catback exhaust until I got paid, I know it isnt long but they needed the money upfront and I wasn't prepared to run the risk until I knew I was covered. Funny thing is they have now put me on a decent modified policy and if I removed the exhaust my insurance will go up

Every last mod I've done is declared, everything right down to the window decals and Spoon socks.

Most small mods don't add anything to the price so you may as well declare them. Bigger things like power mods, suspension changes etc haven't added that much but they still need declaring.

The really crazy thing is that you openly flounce about saying how you don't bother insuring your car properly because THE MAN wants to charge you too much, in a thread in which there is an insurance company posting in.

You've made no attempt to conceal your car's identity - if you were overly abusive about THE MAN and their modus operandi, they could put one call in to your insurance company (who you've also cheerfully listed) and they'd declare your insurance void.

Are you serious? So you declare EVERY tiny little thing you add to the car? I would have to be mad to declare these poxy mods just for them to increase my premium by 300 quid

You'd probably find it may cost nothing, or signifiantly less than you think.. personally i'd be happy to pay a extra for the peace of mind that my insurance is actually worth the paper it is written on.

To be fair though, we (and I dare say other Type R OC BROKERS) aren't interested in finding out about undisclosed mods behind the scenes, we have nothing to gain from it other than a rubbished reputation.

my car is insured properly. The coilovers were sold over 2 weeks ago now, the only thing that isnt "standard" are the white wheels. Do i need to declare these?

In that case i will, but can i just ask why this would make any difference at all? it doesnt enhance performance? they arent aftermarket wheesl?

They are a non-standard colour, they make the car stand out more. Insurer needs to know about any changes made to the vehicle from when it left the facotry, not just 'performance enhancing' modifications.

Imagine there are two parked on a road, both the same make and model, one has an aftermarket bodykit, one doesn't. Which one is more likely to be stolen/vandalised/broken into?

Point taken, i will inform them of the change today. I just hope they dont make me pay a ridiculous amount extra because of it

All declared with the "little bullied schoolboys" at sky insurance. Put my premium up by something trivial like £30. Make your insurance valid ASAP imo. You'll only get a £300 hike in prices if you've seriously increased the power, as you're more likely to crash (which by the sounds of it you don't need any help with).

Oh and  at your back peddling "yeah I sold that the other day... ahem" comments once it has been pointed out how devastatingly truthful you've been with prying eyes around.

I hope he gets the 6 points he deserves when he crashes and has no insurance. See which one adds more to the premium, some minor mods or 6 points for driving without valid insurance.

jesus girls, stop crying and chill out. Dont worry about me i'll be fine. I appreciate all the concern, really i do, its beautiful, but you just concentrate on your own lives
