My 2008 Honda Civic Type R FD2

Don't you get to know things like this before you decide to import the car, and I'm presuming put down money?

Andy is probably best to ask.
I get told if it's OEM or not. If the mods are on the grade sheet then I can find out about them but if it's not on there then you don't really find out until you buy the car.

You get the choice when they find the car and if you like it they go look at it. I think they only really look at condition, mechanically and cosmetically. Mods are a bonus.

Wheels are 17's not 18"s - better traction for hobby track use?

We get to know a lot before bidding and buying plus we have inspections done but wheels are no biggie when there good brand JDM wheels as you can allways sell and put back to standard with 2nd hand ones available in the UK.

If in doubt our team in Japan don't bid.

Just found this which could explain why they fitted smaller wheels

I have a 2011 Peugeot 508 1.6 THP 156. Is it OK to remove the 18-inch wheels and 235/45 R18 tyres and replace them with 16-inch wheels and 215/60 R16 tyres? If so, what would be the effect?

DA, via email

First, make sure the 16-inch wheels will fit around the front brake calipers. If they will, buy from tyremen.co.uk. At the expense of ultimate dry-road grip, you will enjoy greater comfort, improved fuel economy, longer tyre life and less risk of pothole damage. It's a no-brainer, really.

It sits low on 17's, I'm wondering what suspension it has?

That looks about right for OEM suspension; although the wheels are smaller the tyres should be taller to maintain the rolling radius.

Any sort of drop starts to tuck the rears up in the arches, like this:

Ah right, cheers Doodle.

Your tyres look thinner so I'd say it's all good.
I'm not fussed at the min, I can always change stuff in the future. I'm planning on keeping this car for a long while.

Fitting smaller diameter wheels gives the same effect as shortening your final drive, you'll get faster pick up on acceleration.
Of course if the tyre walls are higher then it negates the effect.

ORLY.

I'll have to see how it feels but as I've never driven an FD2 I'll have nothing to compare it too. Maybe Dotty could take it for a blast?

I'm not too worried as wheels can be changed.

Seen the very car going through the auctions.
Noticed the wheels being 17" straight away but knew they aint be cheap items at same time :smt023

All the best with it when it arrives.

So, from the pictures i have the car only comes with one key.

I rang Honda and they wanted £264 for a blank key delivered from Japan and then extra for the key to be cut and coded to the car. FDS
So i tried Steeles Honda (Dave) an he came out slightly cheaper.

Seen as the car is in Japan still, i asked Andy if the guys over there could get me one sorted.
£200 all in! They'll take my car to Honda and get it sorted.

Very happy
