Long time lurker, first topic. This has been copied over from a few forums so sorry for the long first post!
This is my 99 JDM DC2. This car used to be Tegiwa's demo car. They decided they didn't need a demo car, so they tried to sell it, couldn't sell it so broke it for spares and used it as a jig for our K swap headers. When it came back to Tegiwa the shell was going to be scrapped but I thought it was too good for that, a clean yellow JDM shell with 50k miles on it. At the time I owned an S2000 which I loved but I knew this DC2 could be faster for the same money, so I sold it to a friend My aim with the car was and still is to make it look OEM & clean inside and out (lowering allowed) with K swap power and a few other upgrades. I'd really like to get it to drive like OEM too but I don't know how close I'll be able to get.
The car is a 1999 Integra Type R, it's got a few rare factory options for the year such as no ABS, no airbags, stereo delete (no aerial) and no 3rd brake light.
This is how I got the car;
It included the engine (a different one that had been in, so starting almost from scratch), mounts, loom but nothing was fitted apart from the engine sat on the mounts. The wheels were borrowed, suspension was from an EK9 on the front and some dodgy oneson the back so we could roll it to the exhaust shop. No bonnet, bumper, grill, lights, spoiler, sideskirts, interior, it also needed fuelling, cooling, shafts, wheels, suspension. Basically a bare shell rebuild without the dash or subframe!
That weekend I went out and bought it a face. Bumper, bonnet and headlights. I also got a grill a few days later. I bought the last set of 5 stud white Sprint SW98s, a spoiler and a K swap rad. Managed to blag some rear interior bits too.
DC2s have an unintended arch gap which needs to be sealed up, luckily this car hasn't done more than 1000 miles in this country, so arches were still mint.
Once I sealed the arches I could get on with fitting the rear interior that I'd been hoarding. Here's how it looked when I got it;
And after (this is an appaling set of pics, sorry!);
The next few pics show the general progress of getting the engine running. I bought some thick wire for the charge loom, and a fuel setup with RBC intake manifold. I also got a Tegiwa swap manifold and driveshafts, then wired it all up with the supplied swap harness. For cooling I used some motor factor hose for the heater matrix and Hybrid Racing hoses with a Tegiwa swap radiator.
I moved onto the chassis next, the car came with no suspension or brakes. I had recently broken a DC2 and still had the bilstein suspension and calipers, so I refurbed the calipers in silver and put them on with some Project Mu pads I'd bouight from a mate (Coogy if he's on here!), CRN discs and HEL braided lines with RBF600 fluid.
After this and a couple of extra tweaks, the car was ready for MOT apart from the exhaust. K swap headers always end up behind the original catback joint. I maganed to pick up a Mugen Twinloop from a breaker for a good price so I didn't mind chopping it up too much. I know the back box design will cost me a bit of power but I love the sound (had one on my old DC2 and my DC5) and are very safe for pretty much all tracks. so with it looking a bit of a state, and making a LOT of noise, I drove it to the MOT centre to get the exhaust fitted and the test done.
It passed, so I took it down to the bodyshop. When I got it back, I fitted the wheel I'd had waiting for a while. I managed to get a set of Racing Logic coilovers for a good price so I got these fitted too.
I scooped another private plate from the DVLA and transferred it over
As you may have noticed my iphone camera is a bit **** poor and doesn't show the colour very well, so a mate took some photos with something better This is the best one, unfortunately my new front badge hadn't arrived with Honda yet, gutted
The week after that was the RPC launch day at Curborough. I went long with work to look after the track time we'd organised on Facebook, there wasa good turnout and some nice cars.
I took the teg out for a few laps but didn't give it too much death as the gearbox is terrible, it crunches and has an worn input shaft bearing
Another pic from that night;
That's up to date now, the jobs for over winter are;
Replace/Rebuild gearbox, with a light flywheel, new clutch and an LSD with 5.1 final drive.
Fit USDM wiring harness to get eveyrthing to work (had a nightmare following various guides to get the PRA engine harnes to work, so **** it)
Find and fit some PAS as my forearms ache after every parking maneuver
Tidy up engine bay wiring and paint cam cover
Thanks for reading, Matt
