FK2 FK2 general discussion

That's the thing. Mine has an official MPG rating of around 50, and is £130 a year on tax. Cars move on. I'm sure that model was fun, but times change.

Admittedly, I sit at about 36 MPG; but that's still better than I managed on the EP3, and on far less economical journeys now I've moved house. Torque FTW.

I do still want to have a tickle with a standard Type R - I know my old one would be quicker round corners as that's what I spent all my money on, but as I barely touched the engine I'd be interested to compare the two in a straight line. It still feels weird not needing to redline it in every gear. Especially when the redine changes depending what gear you're in.

Technology.

To me, putting it into Honda terms it's like comparing an EK9 with an CH1. Very different cars for different purposes - don't judge a whole marque based on your perceptions of one specification of one model. I know I'm fighting a losing battle on a Honda site, and that Dotty will be along to post an anti Ford meme soon - but I wouldn't have spent 7 happy years in a Honda if I only stuck to what I knew.

I wouldn't have met you lot either mind, so it wouldn't be all bad news.

I have to back Jack up here. When I went in the Fez it was a lovely place to be. Very spacious for passengers and well equipped.
It felt like a very capable little car. Not at all like the previous ST that I owned, which at times felt like it was struggling to use the power it had.

The MK3 Focus ST I had was a fantastic place to sit after the FD2. Again, not saying dynamically it was better, but a much nicer place to be and live with day to day (daily driver).

The FK2 is every bit an equal to it in that respect, but granted it is £10k more than the Focus to start with, plus it actually feels like some real engineers have been through it.

I would have had the Focus longer if the dealers had been half decent when it started falling apart.

I'm not saying they're not good cars. My original statement was it wouldn't touch a DC5 or FD2 in any sort of race.
Standard to standard.

The plus side for the Ford is you can spend £400 on a chip and destroy most modded type r's.

The young lad at work wants something Jap really, but the other apprentices were trying to pull him away from Honda. As (according to them) they're slow torque-less pieces of sh*t

i was obviously trying to show him they're wrong.

Well I went out in an S1, S3 saloon, RS3 and an RS6 this weekend, fcuk owning any other car over these IMO

Nice cars the AUDIs but they look just far to grown up for me IMHO

I don't know mate, these were pretty lairy in the flesh. RS6 had massively flared arches with 21" wheels and two huge exhaust tips. Obviously they aren't nearly as in your face as the Type R though.

How did the S1 drive Martin ?

The S1 had an ABT tune with ABT wheels (wasn't a dealer car) and it was very quick. Would eat up and spit out my S3 for sure, would I trade an S3 for one...no, but if I was looking at a small hot hatch I'd have one.

Flappy paddle boll**ks can FOAD

Did they have any normal manual cars?

The RS3 is S-Tronic only, but the gear changes were so fast, the car didn't even flinch during a change, up or down. The DSG/S-Tronic are amazing gearboxes, IIRC Harv and Suits really rated his 135i auto box too.

I know they're popular but I personally don't like them. Takes away the fun and feel of driving.
If my Evo X was the manual, I probably wouldn't have been in a massive rush to sell it.

The GTR was the same, lovely drive but dem paddles

The Evo auto gearbox isn't a touch on the DSG boxes though mate (from what I've read obviously, not experience).

Then again, some people just don't like auto no matter how good the box which I can appreciate.

It could be as smooth as a baby oiled vagine and I still wouldn't like it

This is the problem I have with cars now. They all seem to want to drive themselves.
Its probably why I'd have an Evo 8/9 over any car at the German dealerships, or most dealerships TBH.

The DSG / triptronic boxes are like watching a friend play games but he lets you press the space bar to jump. You're not really doing much but at least you get to press buttons.

God I sound old. I sound like one of those boring old people who masterbate over MK1 escorts

I had a manual Evo X fq36O with with 480ps and it just ran out of revs at the top end as it was only 5 speed box

looking at the S3 above I still think it looks boring

That's an RS3 fella, but yeah it's very tame looking compared to an Evo. Most German marques are tbh, I personally really like the RS3 (apart from the dated wheels).

And I wouldn't say you sound old, Mark. It's all moving towards cars doing everything, if you buy a VAG car with auto, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, high beam assist (lights) auto wipers, park assist, you can pretty much not put any effort into even driving the car as it'll do it all itself.
